Grinding/Dragging noise

Hey Everyone... been lurking for about 6 months and now I need some help.. I bought my 2005 super crew f150 in Nov and love it. About 2 weeks ago as I was making a slight right turn I heard what sounded like something dragging underneath the truck. I pull over into a parking lot and it was gone. I thought it was odd, but maybe I did drag something. Same thing happened the other day, and before I could stop, it was gone. I looked under the truck and thought maybe the heat sheield around the cat was touching the front driveshaft, so I bent it away a bit. Well the sound came back tonight while I was going about 35mph. It was gone within 5 seconds, as I was pulling over to see if I could catch what it was. Anyone have any clue what could be causing this? Im pretty mechanically inclined and have looked around for binding and cant seem to find anything binding up. When it happens I can feel it in the pedals and its quite loud.

The truck is 4x4 and has about 45k miles on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Next time it does it turn your 4x4 on! It should go away. Mine did that also and the dealer replaced the vacuum control valve for the 4x4. Not sure of the actual name of the controller. But im sure somebody will chime in with it. Its a small little black plastic looking valve on the firewall on the left side near the computer.

Good luck!

Is your truck 4 wheel drive? If so, that sound could very well be the front wheel IWE actuators. The item Irish refers to is the solenoid that controls the vacuum to and from the actuators. This and other websites describe the system and how to trouble shoot/repair same. Search IWE.
