After installing my subs again a few weeks ago I have been constantly chasing vibrations and rattles in the interior of my truck. Doors used to be filled with useless crap, and they are clean now haha. I have isolated some vibrations in the center console and behind the dash, but I have one that I am not sure about how to fix.

At some frequencies in some songs, the trigger on the shifter vibrates very audibly. It sounds so bad that I just put my right hand on the shifter and hold the trigger to one side with a finger. Anybody have a fix for this? I was thinking about disassembling it and putting a thin strip of electrical tape right around where it would come into contact with the shifter, but I have no idea how to break into this thing. Any pointers?

What I am talking about is the chrome "button" or "trigger" on the front side of the shifter:

what did you do to silence the door rattles? my truck is about to drive me nuts, i have taken all door panels off and tried my best to tighten what i could and to add some weather stripping where the plastic meets to the metal.. still they make noise!

 

Oh I haven't made it that far yet, just got all the random tools and stuff (tons of screws and change and what now were in mine) out of the pockets on the doors.

 

I'm sure I'll be hearing some rattling when I get my truck back today hopefully. I'm not sure about the flow thru shifter, I have the same shifter but I hid my switch inside my ashtray just so if I get work done to my truck nobody will know how to turn them on,lol.

 

Well my ashtray is where my USB cord is run to play my music. Great idea though, I didn't even think about hiding it. I always worry about some dweeb tearing my stuff up while its in the shop...

Maybe I'll put a hidden kill switch on my remote wire somewhere now that you mention it...wouldn't be anything to put a non-lighted switch somewhere hidden. Thanks! haha

 

Well I fixed my doors with Raamat. The rattle i'm chasing now is in my flip up center console! The back hinge and pull lever to open it is rattling with my W3's like crazy!

 

The WORST one is the little ashtray its self...my CVR's have managed to open it a few times, when I first put the CVR's in I had spare keys to various gates and what not in there, you would have thought somebody was behind the dash with a metal bar going crazy hitting things. I actually have my USB sticks wrapped with a paper towel that are in there now so I can't here them rattle around so much.

 

Not sure about the other rattles... but the dealer fixed my door rattle under warranty by applying a strip of silicone all along the edge where the plastic and metal meet. Worked perfectly.

 

can you remove your door panel and supply pics of exactly where they applied it? Wonder if i ran a bead of silicone on the inside of the door panels all around the edges?

Between that and the truck itself taking bumps like a tank (feels like im driving a 1 ton with NO SHOCKS) i am seriously having buyers remorse after spending 40K (after interest charges) on a truck

 

I wont be home for a couple weeks so I can't get you any pics. But, let me know if this makes any sense. They applied the silicon right where the plastic door panel meets the metal on the door. They applied all along the the edges except for the top. I'd guess they also let it dry slightly before putting the panel back on so it doesn't get messy.

 

the top of the shifter pops off. the little chrome round thing. pop that off. then i guess hold the button in and try to get tape or something on there.

No problem. That should definitely help with any door vibrations. It fixed mine perfectly.

 

Best way to stop vibrations is at the source. Go here and buy CLD tiles:

Then deaden the crap out of the floor, rear wall, and roof, and get some on the A B and C pillars if you can. You wont have any vibrations traveling to the front of the truck. You may need to add some to the really flimsy plastic parts in the dash, I did have to do that. But I have subs that displace far more than those Kickers and my dash is silent for the most part, rearview mirror barely even shakes much at high volume. Before deadening everything, my dash was like yours... everything was buzzing and the rearview was useless.

 

Yeah, the little ash tray likes to open by itself during some frequencies and my GPS likes to dive from the windshield (fixed that one with a piece of string going to the mirror to arrest a fall haha).

Not sure I'll ever get all the vibrations out of the dash.

For the mean time I just have my Auburn College of Business koozie conveniently placed over the shifter! haha
