My iPod is also my phone, so it leaves my truck when I do, so theft is not a problem.

I drilled a hole in the plastic tray on the top of the dash and ran my wire through it, then cut a slit in the rubber mat, slipped the plug through, and bam. Magic.

You can see it in the top right in this pic. iPhone just lays in the tray, safe from beverages and what ever else:

I like this setup and thats how I ran mine as I dont have the full console but I have the jump seat... I stream Slacker on my iPhone so I need to keep it handy for the occasional skip. I am still trying to figure it out because my DVD is a flip out so it blocks the upper tray from reasonable use. Anyone have any idea's? I am thinking just run it out of the lower storage because it leaves with me when I leave so theft isnt a concern.

What's the benefit of an iPod in your truck anyway ?

I have all my music (close to about 1000 tracks now) on a simple, "cheap" little 8gb flash drive, that sits in my glove box. Heck, I would not be at much of a loss if somebody ever did steal it. Believe me, I worry about the rest of my system WAAAY more than I do my little $25 flash drive.

I do actually have an iPod, with all the same music on it, but I almost never use it for music. Instead, I have close to 1000 of my best photos loaded onto it also.

Of course, as soon as I get me an iPad, I don't know what I'll ever use the iPod for.... Oh, I guess I can keep it in my fish photo camera case, to show off my trophy catches. Super high res is not really important for fish shots anyway.

Peace,
Fish

I have two. One's hard wired in the glove box and one is mounted to the left of the steering wheel via a window mount. The glovebox iPod is the music source and the other is an iPod touch which contains several apps that will allow me to save gas if I pay attention...

iPod Touch...

Mine is in my glove box, hooked up through an ipod interface. If I use the aux jack, I have a proclip mount with a universal holder that holds it for me, but my phone is usually there.

For most, an iPod hooks up easier than a flash drive. I don't believe most of these stock radios have a usb port. On my current iPod I have 30GB of music, which whould be quite a squeeze on most flash drives.

Okay, for stock radios.

My head unit is a Kenwood Excelon X792. Not really fancy. Only about $200 from SonicElectronics, but it does have a USB input, so I figure nearly all head units would have this now, even some of the really cheap ones.

You have 30gb of music ? Holy %$%# ! I have the nearly 1000 songs I mentioned (fairly high bit rates too) on about 5 gb of my 8 gb flash drive !

I guess if I had 30 gb of music, I could use four 8 gb flash drives. They do make a 32 gb, and I think even 64 gb flash drives now, but one 32 gb drive, would probably be twice as expensive, as four 8 gb drives.

Peace,
Fish

Glove box FTW!

I was actually going to use a 32GB flash drive but my head unit wouldn't read it, too big.

This. I put a heavy rubber cover on mine that has protected it from the various other crap in my glove box. I like having it out of sight and controllable through the HU.
