steering rack knock
Hi guys i have a 04 4x4 i heard a knocking noise when you move the steering wheel back and fort i thought it was the outer or inner tie rod end. I went out today to check out the knock and it was not the inner or outer tie rod . I got my father to move the steering wheel and i could here the knock on the driver side in by the rack i moved the boot back and when father moves the steering wheel the shaft coming out of the steering rack got play. Is there a bushing or bearing in there that could be worn that i can replace or is that normal i dont think. Do anyone know where i can get instrucions on how to rebuild my rack.
I just had my truck into the dealer a few weeks ago for this problem.
It turned out to be The Stabilizer End Links (Part #: 5L3Z-5K483-DA). They replaced both of them and the noise is gone now.

Here's a pic that I took. It's the part with the blue 4x4 sticker on it.

Mine had disconnected from the Lower Control Arm and was just rocking up and down and the clunk noise occurs when it makes contact.
