Adding an auto dim rearview to an XL?

I would to grab an autodimming rearview off ebay and install it in my '06 XL. Are these trucks already wired up under the headliner, or do I need to run and route wiring myself? Anyone every done this job?Any help would be appreciated.

I added one to my 06 XLT, and it was not prewired, but it's just a simple low draw device, so I tapped a fuse for power, routing the wires down the passenger side A post.

depending on your model of truck, you might have the wiring already run from the factory.

since you have the XL though, Ford has been pretty stingy about doing that. They were meant to be bare bones so Ford really didn't install anything they didn't need.

The mechanical part of the install is a joke. Ford uses the same mount for all their stuff. I picked up a Auto Dim/Compass unit from a 2006 Taurus for $12 shipped to install in my Mustang.

Electrically, be careful to wire that mirror so it utilizes the battery saver circuit...or at a minimum is "Key On" switched only. Don't want to kill you battery by accident

Thanks for the replies so far folks. If I can find a pinout and get an idea what needs to be wired up, I grab one off ebay and do a write up on it.

I can't wait for the write up, I've been wanting to do this for quite awhile.
