What gets me is that this is FORD's ****-poor design, and because of that, FORD dealerships get to commit highway robbery to change the damned things. As far as I'm concerned, Ford ought to be paying for, or heavily subsidizing, plug changes. It's their fault.

 

Been discussed and argued many times. The design came from the plug supplier engineers. Ford's mistake was accepting it without a long test period.

 

well i finished with 6 of 8 broken.. at least i got 2 and 4 out.. now im deciding between buying the tool or getting a guy to remove them for $50 a plug

 

The tool is only about 70 bucks.

well I got the lisle tool in the mail finally today when i got home from school and i went to work, gotta say that tool is great, had all 6 of them out in 1.5 hours

heres all my plugs and pieces


one problem, the ground strap broke in 2 places so i'll have to vacuum out the missing piece of it

soem advice on using the tool, with the pusher tool crank the nut that pushes the tip all the way down,so you know youve gone far enough and dont waste time checking like i did the first time lol.. and also i know most socket sets dont come with a 24mm socket but you need it for the puller nut, so make sure you got it..

Plugs are good to 100,000 miles is what Ford says.....My truck developed a serious misfire at around 45,000 miles and I had to have them changed. One plug had stuff caked on the end of it. I have a pic of all 8 after removal, none broke. Took it to the dealership because I don't have the time to play with it and to quote someone from an earlier post "it's easier to explain to my wife how the dealership broke a plug than it is to explain how I broke it." My $.02

 

i'd go with a deep but you could probably get away with a shallow one

 

so basically you got lucky.. i dont have a wife so w.e my parents dont care its my truck and i bought the tool myself.. honestly the ford dealer here wanted $900 to do my plugs so i didnt really have to think to much considering im stuck in high school again

lol no.. im just saying that because i was in cooperative education for all of last year working as a framer and thats how i got the money to buy my truck so now im just finishing up my grade 12 math and english credits then i can graduate

 

Now that would scare me. I would never crank my truck again until I was holding that missing piece in my hand, and it fit perfectly in that broken plug.

 

well i finished up this morning, spent abotu 2 hours vacuuming out the cylinders im pretty sure i got everything.. put in the new plugs torqued them down to 25 ft lbs like it says in the tsb and put everything that i had taken off the truck back on.. ran it for 15 minutes sounded good, idled a little smoother then i noticed i forgot to plug the maf wire back into the maf so did that, funny thing i would have expected it to run rough without the maf.. job completed im going to take it for a test drive soon..

yeah it scared me to but i wasnt sure if it had broken off when i pulled it out and simply didnt notice as it fell off but i felt confident because i spent the time vacuuming. anyway after 15 minutes it waas still running so i guess i got lucky.
