4X4 and drag racing
There is this guy I work with thinks his little eclipse can beat my truck in a race. I was wondering if it would be better to put my truck in four wheel drive before we start, that way I have better take of time. We would not be going that far. Is it safe for the truck to do this, and also would it take away from any of the acceleration or horsepower? The only reason I even ask is because I know this guy with a Nissan Titan who is doing it all the time. We would be on pavement.
Unless you just absolutely smoke the rear tires when you lay the hammer down from a stop, it doesn't do you any good to be in 4WD. In any case, the power-to-weight ratio is what is gonna be the big issue. You probably weight twice what he does, but you don't like have twice the horsepower. Not to mention aerodynamics, rotating mass of the wheels, etc. You will get eaten alive, but it's not like an Eclipse is something to be braggin' about owning, lol. He most likely will burn more oil than you in the race.
If he has dual exhaust, you will need two potatoes.

I also worked on the pit crew for my friend who had four Eclipses he ran in SCCA competiton, it was his race shop that did my car. We smoked Porsches on a regular basis.
My biggest sleeper was a Mitsubishi Gallant Turbo, all wheel drive, all wheel steering, and a little massaging under the hood.
Mitsubishi is not the biggest or the fastest of the Asian manufacturers, but they have made some fun stuff.
1. Street racing is for idiots.
2. If you want a fast car, buy a fast car.
3. If you want to beat the eclipse, challenge him to a mud race as opposes to a drag race.

yeah your not gonna win. that car has a lot less weight to get moving.even a super charger for the most part is only equalizing it in your favor a little bit, just because of the weight lol. but with that said, I havent found anyone that wanted to see if they could really pass me.
Either way, most likely any car around 3K lbs and 200HP+ will be able to outrun the F150 Screw in stock form.

I am glad I understand the limitations of my truck...it removes all temptation to race.

lmao
