PCV Valve

Ok I'm aware this would probably be better suited in the engine section, but would rather target the guys drivin my truck rather than the other models. I've got an 04 new body with the pain in the but 5.4 3v engine and want to replace my pcv valve since I'm at 80,000 miles and want to keep her running like a champ. Question is, has anyone done this and how? How do you remove the hose and is the replacement the entire black housing or just a silver valve. Haynes manual sucks on the explanation of how to. Thank you all for your help

the ford manual says to remove the two bolts and the PVC heater element. Looks like the whole thing slides out of the intake manifold. bolt torque is 53" lb
PCV heating element part # 9F624

The valve isn't really a valve per se, more like an oil separator/screen. It's serviced by replacing the driver's side valve cover.

I'v read on hear that it may be a contributing factor to missing oil when you do an oil change so I think I may need it and its part of the 60,000 mile maintinence

so if it's part of the valve cover and part of sched. maint., you have to replace the valve cover every 60K? damn. hate to see how much that runs.

check your intake manifold past the pcv and if there is a lot of oil you should replace it but if its just a little, thats fine and normal. also if your thinking your pcv is bad one thing to consider is that its not the pcv but actually too much crank case pressure which is cause by blow by. one way to check is if your dip stick gets popped out like 1/8" every time you drive it that might be the case (in other words the pressure in the crank case pops the seal on the dip stick so its not fully in) but you could still have blow by and not have that happen...and if thats the case you should put new rings in it

Wow that does not sound like a good option I'll have to figuer it out or have the dealer take a look when I do my plugs in the next two weeks. If I take it apart I'll take some pics for all to see how to do it. Thanks everyone for your help.
