Hello sir!

[Off-topic]

Doesn't matter - add it anyway - MC XL-3, 4 oz. Cheap additional insurance fer an expensive traction-Lok, and will absolutely not hurt doing so.

From M1's site:

"Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube 75W-140 LS contains special friction modifiers designed for limited slip-type differentials. In most applications, the addition of special LS (limited slip) additives is not required. For axles requiring the highest level of limited-slip performance, OEM specific LS additives can be added to this fluid."

Cheers

If the picture that he added is what his rear end looks like when its opened he doesn't need the friction modifier. The friction modifier is for a limited slip rear and the one pictured is an open center section. If it was a limited slip it would be all closed in to keep the clutchs together.

Good morning!

10-4.

It was, as indicated, Off-topic (and only in response to Ilovemyford's post).

Thanks.

Guys,

That is not an exact picture of my rear. Its the only picture of a rear I could find for an 9.75" F150. I am sure mine looks different. I do have a LS differential.

If someone has an exploded view or has a picture of a rear, I will point out the pieces that are blued. The spider gears, themselves are not blued.

Is it possible that the installer used machinist's bluing when setting up the gears to check for proper mesh?

No, he did not. I was right there with him and helped with the install. if it wasnt such a PITA to take the cover off, Id take a picture for you all.

Honestly, if it blows up, it will just give me an excuse to put in a tru trac and a nicer rear

Ok if you are running a LS in there then yeah the added friction modifier will not hurt anything and yes they are c-clipped. The c-clip can turn blue since it is only a brass clip out the factory. What someone else may use I wouldnt know. Also that pic you have is the same other than not being able to tell if it has clutch plates, as what goes in at the factory as a LS or locker case.
