So I was trying to move my truck out of 2.5 feet of snow and it was doing find til I saw my small display say trans fault and the wrench light pop up? only has 59k

Now I shut it off and turned it back on and works fine now.....should I be worried? Anyone seen this before?

If the tires are moving real fast and the truck isn't, aka doing burnouts it'll go into failsafe mode, dunno why trans fault popped up though

Mine did that in the snow one time. Went out to the local airport, and was turning around in their parking lot got stuck. Ended up getting some wheel speed and the wrench came on and truck started running funky. Shut it off, turned it back on and no problems since. That was about 20,000 miles ago.

im guessing you were stuck and trying to rock yourself out? it should be mentioned that doing exactly this wrecks many transmissions. the transmission has a built in temp sensor. you most likely overheated your transmission, greatly reducing its lifespan...i would change the fluid asap. any damage that has been done is now irreversible.

My '04 did this about 6 years ago. I was backing out of my garage, the wrench light came on and it started running rough. I shut it down, then restarted it, the light was off and it ran normal again. Hasn't happened since.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm betting that a sensor's wire or plug got wet from the snow.

I'd say you are fine.

Then again, the last time someone asked me what the wrench light meant in a F150, I told them that a mechanic left their wrench in the engine.

Most likely a computer glitch, probably not a big concern. My work van does that sometimes. It will act funny then start holding a gear and not shifting. I shut if off and its fine. It does it every so often and has not caused a bigger problem.

I doubt it was heat, I plow with my truck for hours on end and I don't have issues with trans temps. I was out all morning and my truck never even hit 170' Normally I am in the 150s when plowing and the 160s while traveling with the plow. My trans runs hotter when I tow then when I plow.

But if your at 59k and never had a tranny service done, it would not hurt to get the fluids changed. I run royal purple in the trans, t-case and both diff's and I did notice the trans temps dropping by about 8' after the switch. That could be the diffrence between a new tranny sometimes.

It has happened to me probably 3 times. I would be pulling out of my driveway and it says trans fault. My truck never started to run weird or anything but every time I just shut off my truck, restarted and then had no problems after that.

well guess what I had it serviced at 40 something when I bought it.....tranny may have just crapped out.

*barely no power in the forward gears, can't get it passed 20mph and seems like reverse has all the power* -- same thing that happened to my dads 2000 windstar before he had a new transmission thrown in. Code Po731 So how f-ed am i?

THis has happened to me 3 times. Only happens when the trans is cold and when going slowly down a hill. All three times, I just shut the truck off and turned it back on...no problems. Others have had the same issue.

P0731 is a solenoid or clutch failure in the tranny. If it's a solenoid, that's a fairly easy fix, but if it's a clutch it's rebuild time.

ah yeah same thing I read up on and also it missed 1st and 2nd gear which may explain why it wont go up hills....how embarrassing is it to have it a tow bed hook me and pull me up the bed because my v8 had no power lol It sucks but thankfully I found out I have 75k powertrain and they cover $30 for a rental..........they took me to enterprise and the guy said: "I can give you that 09 F150 for the price of a compact car if that helps" $40 a day minus $30 plus $20 for insurance since I drive alot and not sure how long the truck will take to fix....so I got a sweet deal.

I am impressed at how well the mpgs are and how roomie the crew cab is and how well it rides! I could swear mine takes the bumps much harder lol I just want my truck back though

P0731 means your trans is slipping. Forward clutch is likely smoked.
