Fuel filter on 2007 F-150

I changed my fuel filter today on my 2007 F-150 5.4 Supercrew. It is a Flex fuel engine. Autozone gave us filter number FF687. It was too small for our truck. So we returned it and again they looked our truck up in the computer and came up with the same filter and told us basically we were crazy. So we took the one that is on the truck in (the original filter). He said it is a 2008 non flex fuel filter?? We bought that (Part number FF756) and it fits perfectly. I searched on here and found 2 other people with 2007 F 150's that also had problems with the size of their fuel filter. Just wondered if anyone knew why this was and wanted to put this on here so others with 2007's can have a heads up about this issue. Thanks.

I have the same issue on my '06 5.4 (non-flex).

I just go get the 2008 filter......if they have it.

Usually I wind up at the dealer and they usually get it right.

I have had the same issue on a few other parts (pinion seal, etc.). Makes you kinda careful when you go to pick up a part..........and somewhat hesitant to order one online that you can't see.

I ran across the same issue with my 06 4.6 I looked it up in the books they have hanging by the filters and there is a itty bitty * that you cant see the first time looking it up. It goes off into detail about which filter should fit. Blah blah blah, I had to bring mine back and switch it out also after I had installed it. They weren't to happy with the fuel in it.

Thanks for the heads up. It is on my list to change the fuel filter soon and I also have a 2007 5.4 Supercrew flex fuel engine.

04 and 05 use the FG986B because they have a 5/16 fuel line. 06+ use a FG1083 and have a 3/8 fuel line. Those are motorcraft part numbers. Those aftermarket part books are usually not accurate because they dont take into account production changes and assume all parts for 04-08 ect. are the same which they are not..

FG1083 is what I tried to install on mine. The tubing was too little. I am not sure if possibly the box had the wrong filter in it.

Well, I wish I had seen this post prior to attempting to change the fuel filter on my 07. Ran into the same issue at advance auto. Looked it up in the book, couldnt find it on the shelves, so I asked the guy behind the counter. He got it for me. I get home, and the damn thing is too small. Now I'm waiting for my wife to get home with her car so I can go back.

Went back to the store, got the correct filter (2008 non-flex as the OP stated, which happened to be half the price of the wrong one) and...OMG it looks the same as the one I took off Fit right in. Thanks to the OP!

On a side note, the filter change (not including the second trip to the store) took me about an hour. I found that my truck has the red clip on the rear fuel line going into the filter, not the blue one. That actually wasn't too bad, just unclip it and push it back through its retaining piece halfway and it pops right off. Unfortunately, when I bought the truck, I had them spray the underside with the rust protectant (its the thick black rhino liner type stuff, not the factory black coating). While the coating has held up well and there are no signs of rust or peeling where they sprayed it, the local company that sprayed it sprayed OVER the filter, and the connectors. About half of the time I spent on the filter change was digging the crap off of those.

I also have a 2007 w/flex fuel and I could not find a filter at vato zone or oreillys or wally world, but I did find the correct filter at napa, it was branded under the napa name but made by wix, I paid about 14 bucks for it. The original filter was a FG-1083
