Blowing fuse 102, ignition switch short

Hey,

I've got a 2004 FX4 with a 5.4. I drove it and didn't notice anything strange. I shut it off for about 10 minutes to run inside and get some stuff when I came back out to start it. I've got nothing when I turn the key to run. The battery is charged (all lights come on bright). Although my keyless entry and interior light and headlights work the instrament panel wont light up when I turn the key to run nor will the windows work.

Anyone have any idea's here?

Sounds like an ignition fuse. Does your radio turn on? Look in your owners manual for the ignition fuse. It is a large rectagular fuse. I cant remember what number.

Edit: I just found the fuse number. Its 102. It is a blue fuse with a clear looking lid. If it is blown pull the similar fuse from the trailer brakes to get you to the autoparts store. I think it is right next to the ignition fuse.

Also the fuse is found in the passenger side kick panel in a fuse box.

Thanks for the quick reply. Okay, I pulled fuse 102 and it was blown. So I tried replaceing it with a 30amp for my power driver seat. That fuse also blew as soon as I turned the key.. I guess I got a short.. where would I start looking tho?

Is there any chance I could get a wiring diagram off of some one?

The only thing that I changed since the last time I started it was that I plugged in the charger for my cell phone into the power port behind the center consol. I dunno if this would have to do with anything.. it was unplugged when I tried with the second fuse.

Well I was able to find some diagrams. Since the fuse blows when I switch the ignition to run/acc I looked at what's connected to that part of the ignition switch. I seems to be terminal 6 of connector 250, wire 297 which then runs to Fuse F2. 01 which I checked and it isn't blown.

Would this mean the short must be within the ignition switch itself?

If this is my problem does anyone know of a tech artical or some instruction for replaceing it? I wish I had a service manual but there's really no time to get one as I need to get my truck started so I can drive home from work tommorow ha.

No remote start, but there was two previous owners of the truck. There wasn't a single other mod made to the truck but I guess that doesn't mean someone hasn't made other changes.

Any advice for tearing into the steering coloume to access connector 250? I don't have a manual so I'm always leary of taking off trim cause I never know where to pull, pry or slide once I've found all the visable screws..

I've gotten to the ignition switch and determined the short is comming from the start postion. I'm now trying to break down the circuits.. no other fuses blowing.

Also... I can't get the truck out of park so that I can tow it. I guess im not getting power to the tranny or something? this is turning into a nightmare

I'd like to update this incase someone else is runs into this problem.

The wire that carried the short was wire 964 DB/LG at the ignition switch. I pulled the connector from the central junction box and the short was gone on that end so the ignition switch wireing from the power feed back the central junction box was fine.

Now, looking at the wireing diagrams I can see that everything that's powered by that feed is fused except for one run that is eventually spliced to each of the ignition coils. I started pulling the connectors and trying to find the short but in the process I must have moved the part of the harness what was shorted because the short disappeared. I tried wiggling the wires and playing with things while the circuit is powered up and I can't get it to short again.... There's no miss or anything weird when I drive it.

So now other than taking a megger to it and seeing if I can find a faulty wire under a higher voltage I guess i"m just gonna keep driving it this way waiting for it blow randomly again and leave me stranded.
