im not sure how much an e-locker is, but i paid $1,700 to regear my 4x4 and that was the best price i found (blame NJ)

I would assume gears for a 2wd would be around $800.

$1800 for a 2WD is a joke. Buy the ring and pinion, and locker online, then have a shop put it together.

How much do the actual gears cost, compared to price of install?

the gears will run you anywhere from 300 to 500 (4x4) plus the cost of your elocker, theres no reason you cant make that your total, plus the cost of small stuff like spacers mabye new bearings. i myself could not ever even humor the thought of paying somebody 2 grand for something that can be done yourself for under half a grand. so i would never even consider going to a shop to regear but idk if doing it yourself is an option. if its not i would at least buy the gears myself online and then take them to the shop to be installed. at least thataway you know your getting the exact gears you selected and know exactly what to expect from them

I have thought about doing it myself, I have before. But I don't know that I trust my work on something I drive daily. Done it to rock crawlers before. Thing that scares me is trying to get the tooth contact just right and stuff.
