Fuel cell/tank help??
Fuel cell/tank help??
Are our gas tanks plastic with a metal shield?
Has anyone replaced their tank with a fuel cell? If so, was it mounted under the truck or in the bed?
Are there any fuel cells on the market the mount in the stock (relative) location and cann accept our stock sending unit and pumps?
I know I am asking for a lot here.

I really dont want a fuel cell. I really need a gas tank that is about a foot shorter. If our tanks are plastic, I will just cut a stocker and use some gas-proof plastic adhesive to put it back together - shorter.
I am looking to run long tubes and a custom exhaust setup on my S331, but the back of the gas tank is in the way for the driver's side-out exhaust.

I see...
Pretty sure the tank is metal. I've seen it several times and just can't remember.
Best bet would be to remove the spare tire, place a custom fuel cell in there with an upgraded fuel system. Better weight distribution, and ready for the big power later on.

As soon as this rain lets up, I am going to go bang on my tank to see what it is made of. Some say plastic, others say metal. It may be plastic with a metal heatshield on the one side of it. I found one on ebay out of a screw and it is described as black plastic....and I can see a metal shield on the one side.
Big power later on.....if that ever comes....thats why I am upgrading to the troyer fuel setup this summer
If you plan on upgrading to the troyer fuel setup later on this summer... put in a fuel cell... It will cost the same price, you can relocate it for better weight distribution, and it will help your exhaust routing.

Confirmed the that fuel tank is, indeed, plastic with a metal heat/protective shield on it.
Unfortunately, after measuring today, Id have to cut the tank in half just to get the exhaust to fit. This would compromise the sending unit, pumps, evap, etc.
We have emissions testing here, so a fuel cell will not fly.
Back to the dang drawing board.
