Rear Sensing continuously beeping

This morning, I spent some time working on the ashtray to stop the rattling. This evening, I was backing out of the garage and the RSS wouldn't stop beeping. I am able to turn off the system to stop the beeping.

The compass and heated seats work; can it still be the fuse? I checked the back bumper for the sensors being covered.

I took the wood grain trim off again and checked to make sure the button was still connected. I disconnected it and reconnected it with no success for the issue.

What else can I do to fix this problem?

I have a 2005 Lariat 4x4 just for reference.

more then likely you have a bum sensor if one goes bad it will cause the system to beep constantly the only way i know of finding out which one it is is bring it to the dealer and have them throw it on the computer or i guess you could just buy a new one and keep swapping it out till you find the bad one?

If you can turn it off, then the button isn't the issue. I would go ahead and wipe off all of the sensors with a soap/water mix and see what that does. If it doesn't work then I would go buy one sensor and swap out the sensor one by one to see which one of the 4 was bad.

Mine has done that a couple of times when it has been really cold out(say 10* and under)? My truck is parked in a carport though overnite (doesn't fit in the garage).

Haha, I forgot to say that I had left it down just to see if anybody had read the manual.

The wife took the truck to work as her Grand Prix wouldn't have done well with the solid sheet of ice all over the roads.

I will clean the sensors with a clean rag and see if that makes a difference. The truck has an extended warranty that was transferred to me once I bought it. If the sensors won't work after the snow/ice is gone, I'll have to take it in.

Is this a common issue with this model year?

I've got them on my '05 FX4 and haven't had any issues.

Sounds like maybe a bad sensor... Does it beep, or is it a constant tone?

Yeah, mine beeps also if it 20 degrees or less. Just remember every day is closer to spring.

I'm wondering how much of the ice/snow on the ground is causing this problem. The wife reported that she never had the constant tone during her drive to and from work. It also had no issues on our "fun" drive in the snow this evening. The problem did reappear after our dinner as we were leaving the parking lot. So I'm guessing there may not be an issue.

My bet is on a bad sensor.

Stuff on the ground won't cause a constant tone. A curb might cause some beeps, but that's all. Ice or snow on the sensor, that's a different story.

I was curious to know if there was a TSB for this issue and indeed there is.

TSB 05-4-19, False Parking Aird Warnings.
It applies to quite a few Ford models and the 04-05 F150 is listed among those.

Here's a link to a summary of the TSB, http://www.ford-trucks.com/tsb/fullt...php?tsb=05-6-4 If anybody would like the full copy, send me a PM with your email and I'll send it to you. I found this TSB on my county's library Auto Repair Database and was able to save a copy.

Just to quote a little from the document,
ABNORMAL ROAD SURFACES:
The RSS/FSS may give warnings due to certain road surfaces with surface projections such as rocks, broken pavement, unplowed snow covered roads. This is considered normal operation.

OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES:
Very wet weather conditions, such as mist, frost or snow may provoke occasional warnings. The system may detect liftgate while open and certain trailer hitches and/or bicycle racks. External ultrasonic noise may be detected (high velocity air, machinery). This is considered normal operation.
As of the night I found this problem, my driveway hadn't been cleared off yet. The next day, I spent my son's nap time getting the ice and falling snow off the driveway. I finished off the rest of the fallen snow last night after the storm passed through but haven't heard from the wife yet to know if it worked or had the constant tone.
