Gryphon programmer

I have had the Edge Evolution for my 08 4.6L for a couple months now and I love it. I am thinking about upgrading to a Gryphon soon because I want the custom tunes for my truck. Is this a smart move and also what custom tunes would be the best to get? I have the K&N intake and Poweraid throttle body spacer but I also want to get the Banks dual exhaust someday. I will be towing a work trailer with either our skid steer or mini excavator every once in a while so I definitely want a tow mode but I don't know which performance mode I should get. 90% of my driving is without a trailer and I liked having fun with the Edge's level 3 for the extra power.

I have the Gryphon custom 87 Performance and the 93 performance. The 87Performance has as much power as level 3 and much better shifting/downshifting. I seldom feel the need for the 93 Perf tune and I ran level 3 on the Edge for 31,000 miles.

You could keep the Level 2 for towing or get a custom towing tune to take advantage of the CAI. Keep in mind that the Edge tunes are for stock intakes.

Also, get rid of the TBS, it does nothing for a fuel injection system.

I'm new to the site and thanks for the advice. What do you have for your 3rd tune? I know the Edge is for stock vehicles only so that's why I had to put my stock intake back in when I ran the Edge. Now that it is winter, I put my K&N back in and don't use my Edge because I get way too much snow in Ohio and can't use all the extra power. That's why I am looking to upgrade to the Gryphon now because I won't use my Edge until spring anyway. If the TBS does nothing, why would they make it for newer vehicles?

Because stupid people buy them. j/k

I don't think anyone is going to object about upgrading to a Gryphon. If you have the cash, you should get an 87 tow, an 87 performance, and a 93 performance. The tunes are going to be like $60 a piece since you are having your Edge upgraded. I would also get the exhaust before the custom tunes so that it can be taken advantage of.

Ummm - there are no adjustment for exhaust mods required unless it's hi-flow cats & longtubes ....

A cat back exhaust is not affected by tunes and viceversa. It affects sound only. My three tunes are the canned level 2 for towing(since I do little towing), 87 Perf and 93 Perf. If you tow often or tow heavy, I would get a custom towing tune. I strongly recommend the 87 Perf if you want a strong, fun tune but would rather not pay for the premium fuel. If the cost of premium is not a factor, then go for the 93 Perf as well. I never need that much performance, but it does not hurt to have it.

You ask about why they make throttle body spacers. They work for carbureted engines and people just assumed they would work for the fuel injected ones. So, there was a gullible market. Kind of like high performance COPs, the factory is more than adequate, another waste of money. Actually, the CAI is pretty much a waste. You don't get but about half of it's capability unless you have a custom tune and even at best, you only get about 12 to 14 hp. Pretty big price for it when you can modify the snout on the stock intake and get almost the same results(see the Articles and How To section). The CAI does make a sound as if it is doing a lot, but that is because the silencers have been removed, and they do look nice.

They also work on Carbureted engines. And any application with a small intake plenum. Not an issue in our trucks.

gryphon was well worth the money, with 87 performance tuned exactly for what i wanted... it was the best driving truck i've ever driven.. just make sure you tell your tuner EXACTLY what you want.

Do they make a tuner for an 08 f250?
