Horrible Hesitation when passing

Looking for suggestions on my 07 5.4, When passing another vehicle I find it always necessary to stand on it It's then I encounter the mid 70's mopar thermoquad studder. The one when you floor it, Listen for the pop, Then comes the rumble in the intake (usually a couple seconds) Then when it clears out you can proceed with your pass. On occasion it will also miss/stumble under a light load between 12-1800 RPMs. The truck currently has 47,000 miles, I was planning a SP-507 plug change at 50,000, I think it may be sooner

Buy a tuner. Look into an Edge or Gryphon from Power Hungry Performance.

Find, then fix, the root cause, then buy a tuner; the tuner is not going to fix a pre-existing condition.

plugs, cops/boots/dielectric, injectors, bad gas, fuel filter, reflash updates, the 'Bluejay Effect', etc, etc ...

didnt know the 5.4's did this, i know my 4.6 takes a good 3 or 4 seconds to comprehend such a request

1 i switch lanes
2 gun it
3 magnaflows play the part
4 3-4 sec.
5 i take flight

i have no problem however if i see im gonna have to pass the guy from a mile away, doing and already steady 65 i just swing around and punch it to the 75 mark and go around

Are you talking highway speeds or city (approx. 35 MPH) speeds?

I didn't like the lag in downshifting when trying to accel from like 35 - 40 if I had been cruising at 35 for awhile.

So I bought an Edge tuner and run it on the stock level 2 setting.

It fixed what I considered to be bad tuning that Ford used to set the shift points in my 2004 FX4 with the 5.4.

But if you think you have mechanical issues then I agree with MGD... fix the engine first. It sounds like yours might be worse than just a bad shift point.

Yes - both of them use ETC ( which is exactly waht you state - yer right foot ASKS the PCM "we need more power, Scotty"! And sometimes Scotty is in the corner, drunk).

If you haven't already tried, see if you can get it dealer reflashed with a PCM update - may help.

Difference here is, you do not report the stumble the OP also has...

Hey Scotty

I had Ford reflash my PCM per a TSB a few years ago. It didn't seem to help IMO so then I found a used Edge.

It happens at highway speeds, I had the evolution for a couple of weeks but, It exaggerated the low RPM miss so badly that ultimatly the tuner met it's demise. I had the truck reflashed last year for better shifting characteristics. The hesitation started 2 weeks ago, so far I have cleaned the throttle body/MAF sensor and changed the fuel filter. Are the coils on the 07's as problematic as the earlier trucks?

True, the reflash could fix the problem but it's still going to be a dog. :o

Well, Quentin suggests from his experience that the COP's rarely fail in the newer MY's - and he ought to know, lol.

Hate to say it, but it may require you to get the thing hooked up to advanced diagnostics to pull random misfire data/trending.... yeah ... a ford dealership. Forget autozone.

Like I said - this is what is now commonly known to be '~The Bluejay Effect~'

Good luck - hopefully one of our resident engine gurus will help ya out...

I had that problem, but know It just takes off thanks to a custom tune by VMP. I also raised my trans shift firmnes and has helped out alot. You should look in to a custom tune by VMP, PHP or Troyer.
