Possible to just replace mirror in side mirror?

My driver side mirror is cracked and has multiple cracks all the way across it. Im pretty sure a rock shot up and cracked it. Is it possible to replace just the mirror part? if so how much?

Go to a local glass shop and ask them if they can cut a mirror for you. I had the same thing happen on my 240sx and a local glass shop cut out and installed a replacement for $10. It doesn't hurt to look around locally first, and if no beans, then you can try the dealership or online parts places.

The Ford dealer online parts suppliers show a mirror as a separate item

Collision Catalog -> 2006 -> Ford F-150

Front door -> Outside mirrors -> Mirror glass -> W/heat

MRSP : 21.18
online price : 13.98

Without heat
Right MSRP : 35.27, price : 23.28
Left MSRP : 28.40, price : 18.74

It shows this for Item #2 below :

I had one replaced by the dealer on my 01, and I was amazed at how little it cost. I think I've seen them on ebay too. Just search for f150 mirror glass. If you have signal in the mirror or heated mirrors the price goes up.

Quick (short term) fix for when you've busted a mirror. Is to go buy one of the large 4 or 5 inch round blind spot mirrors and stick it onto whats left. That will at least give you something to work with and only costs like 5 bucks.

Did you get the glass with the backing plate attached, or just the mirror itself? From what I can find on Ebay its about $20 for just the glass, or $50 for the glass with the backer. Did you have to scrape the old glass off and glue the new one in place?

if you just need the glass just get the glass...it should just snap into place where the broken one is....thats how my mustang was. Took a chunk of metal on the freeway and smacked the mirror...looked over and glass was gone, mirror housing was still intact though which was shocking.

The housing is fine. But the glass on these trucks is adhered to a plastic "backing plate" which snaps into the housing. You can either by the glass and backing plate together and just snap it in ($50) or get just the glass ($20). I believe in that case you have to pick all the old glass off of the backing plate and adhere the new one. I'm wondering how much of a PITA that is.

Some one stole my mirror driver side, so I thought it would be very expensive, but it turn out to be really cheap at the dealer I think I paid about $24 dollars for the driver side mirror.

Was this just the glass, or did it include the backing plate? I'm guessing since somebody stole your original that you purchased the glass with backing plate for $24? You simply snapped it into place correct?
