Intermittent cruise control on 2004 Lariat

I am having intermittent trouble with the cruise control in my 2004 Lariat.

I have checked all of the lights including the 3rd tail light. They all seem OK. The brake pedal switch seems to work (when the cruise does).

The problem is that sometimes it works and sometimes not. I press ON and then SET. When it works the green light on the dash comes on and the speed stays set. But about 2/3 of the time after pressing ON then SET nothing happens. No light on the dash and the speed is not set. If i wait a while and press ON and SET again it might or might not work. Sometimes after pressing SET the green light will flash on then go off and the speed will not hold. Other times after pressing ON and the SET the speed will hold for awhile and then the light will go off an the speed will no longer hold.

I have seen other post on this but could not find a resolution...

things are getting wierd. No way this could matter...but

the cruise control works in the morning on the way to work. (every day this week)
does not work on the way home. Not much change in temps during that time.

Did you ever figure this out? I have the exact truck with the same problem. I bought it 3 months ago and it worked fine when I bought it. It seems to work more often before the engine warms up completely. The only variable I can come up with is I took the truck to the car wash and gave the engine bay a good 10 second bath with the sprayer and the next day the cruise was sporadic. Odd.

After using the Search tool extensively it all pointed to the brake interlock switch, which I had replaced last week and the cruise works flawlessly now. The 1st and main thing to look for is if you can shift the truck into gear without applying the brake. I started with the brake pedal switch hoping for a cheap fix but no luck. Also, FWIW, the part is a tad more expensive and tougher to get to on a console shift truck.

I know it may have been relocated, but I git an error on the link you provided:

The document name you requested (/uploads/ad..._INTERLOCK.pdf) could not be found on this server.

Thanks

Adding to the pool of information here.
First thanks to all for posting their finds as this lead me to solving my intermittent cruise control problem on my 2003 Ford F150.
I started with the simple switch at the master cylinder but this did not solve the issue. Next I tried the clock spring and still no results. Next was the steering wheel switches. Still no good. Finally, I did a test drive and pulled up on the brake pedal with my foot while trying to activate the cruise and it worked as long as i was putting upward pressure on the pedal. I pulled the under pedal switch, popped it open and cleaned the contacts then reinstalled and the cruise is working every time now. It could be that the rod connecting the switch to the brake booster is the issue but its working now. Hope this helps. I would recommend that anyone else facing this same issue try the switch before spending the money on the clock spring unless you are seeing dash lights indicating the spring needs maintenance. Stay safe all.

There is ZERO interaction between the front side marker lamps and the speed control. If replacing the bulbs fixed it, it was a coincidence.

The ONLY lamp on an 04-08 that can disable the speed control is the high-mount stop lamp if it's out (or replaced by a LED that doesn't have a pull-down built in).

Ford dealer said check all my bulbs! I did and after replacing the two front side marker bulbs it worked again,ALL OTHER BULBS WERE OK, sounded stupid to me but it worked????

What part of "coincidence" needs explaining?

The parts you replaced are in no way related to the reported symptom.
