Ziebart Undercoating

Those of you that have this, is it worth it? What does it look like when the truck is completed? Can you see/feel the undercoating?

I used to get it on every new truck I bought. I haven't gotten it done to my last two trucks (2005, 2010) though. My reasoning is that advances in anti-corrosion coatings on most new vehicles have made this kind of stuff just an expensive add on. Yes, you can see it and yes, it does somewhat slow down the corrosion process, but I have yet to see a significant difference in the rate of corrosion on my last two truck when compared to my older trucks. Just my 2 cents though. I'm sure a Ziebardt dealer would say otherwise.

2Stroked,

Thanks, that's about what I figured too. My truck is an 04, very little rust (spare tire and trailer hitch are really the only areas where rust is showing), but I plan on keeping her for awhile yet.

Does the undercoating look like black paint? Just trying to determine if this stuff would affect the appearance of my truck. Truck still looks brand new.

Thanks

I just hit my '07 with Rustoleum every year, and it she's looking better than show room under there every year... obviously I wash it down well with the pressure washer.

I do recommend if you spray under there, wear gloves, mask, and goggles... and of course clothes you want to trash.

I highly advise against undercoating, especially if you do a lot of DIY work... that junk makes it easy to strip bolts because they are careless when then spray it on and it fills bolt heads and junk... it's aweful.

Last summer I hit it my frame, rear axle, & trailer hitch with rustoleum semi gloss black! I also drop my spare tire every spring & wash it good! I also do the pressure wash after every time it gets exposed to road salt! The tech at the Ford Dealership is astounded everytime he changes my oil at how much better than new it looks under there!.....(LOL)....

I'm gonna have to hit my truck up with rustoleum in the spring time. I love the high pressure wand at the car wash.

I have undercoating not Ziebart... I would recommend it to anyone who lives with harsh weather conditions... It is well worth the money...

Well I made an appointment today to have my underbody sprayed. They are doing it tomorrow. After reading discussions about Ziebart and the undercoating I kept going back and forth as to if I should do it or not. Last summer I painted the frame, axle, and some other parts with Por 15. Its still holding up, but the stuff was pretty expensive. I figured black goo is better than rust. I will make sure to post some pics afterwards!

I had mine undercoated when i bought it, not at ziebart, but i also wash my truck every other time i get gas. In the winter i hit the wash everytime i fill up. My truck is pretty clean underneath.

Hummmm, now Im second guessing if I should take my truck in tomorrow. I found a few pictures on a different website, and I wasn't impressed with how it looked. Granted I know its the underbody and nobody really sees it, but I still don't want the parts that can be seen to look like crap (With a lift you see a lot more of the underbody)....I might cancel my appointment tomorrow.

its not that noticeable. they only spray frame and floor pan, etc. so it should not look too bad, plus it'll help protect against rusting from the inside out.

My truck was undercoated two years ago when i first got it, never again will i do it. Look the crap and the guy who did literally sprayed it everywhere so the whole bottom of my truck is brown from dirt. I would sooner wash and spray paint it once or twice a year then have this done again.

I found that using these products, that if any moisture does get in and under missed areas, that it traps the moisture in and is counter productive. I used to use Ziebart and I still got some rusting, which means what I said above holds water. The best measure is to wash the under carrage regulary especially in the winter..pressure washing is best.
I have seen undercoating where it looks like a rubber sealant that flakes off with age, and in another application, a bluish sloppy spray-on....
