2004 F150 4x4 High Light Not Working

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have seen several similar posts, but none seemed to have my exact situation.

I have an 04 (newer body style) STX 4x4 with a 4.6L. It has the manual shift on the fly 4x4. I have owned the truck for 2 years and 20k miles and the 4 wheel drive has worked flawlessly. I am trying to sell the truck and during the test drive the guy put it in 4 high. It engaged the four wheel drive, but the 4x4 High light did not come on. He then put it back in 2wd and it pulled it out of 4 wheel drive quickly like it should. Everything seems to be functioning normally except the light doesn't come on. I tried engaging it 10 times or more and the light did flash once for a brief second. The light is also lit when the key is first turned forward. The 4x4 low light works normally.

Do the trucks have a sensor on the transfer case or shift assembly to detect the position? If so, do you think that is bad? Any other ideas. We looked at the solenoid and vacuum lines and didn't spot any leaks.

Thanks

I have the same issue with mine that I bought just a short while ago. There is an indicator switch that screws in the transfer case ( just look at where the shift rod goes into the case and you will see it), this might be the issue. Or double check the 4x hi light by cycling the key to make sure that it works then. It bothers the crap out of me, but I prefer to do projects like this (ones that can wait) until after hunting season.
