HID help!

Hey everyone, so I recently installed a DDM tuning Raptor 35W HID kit (6000k) and my one bulb keeps flickering. Aside from sending it back, DDM has given me all their troubleshooting ideas. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with our trucks (2006 FX4 Screw). Thanks!

did you buy a relay with the kit, i think they just call it a wire harness on their site?
if you didn't then that would be your problem. the hids aren't getting enough power through the factory wire harness.

They send a relay kit for the Hi/Lo package that takes power/ground from the battery, then runs it from a kit into each individual ballast. then it takes the sending message from the computer through the H13 harness on the passenger side to control each ballast (controlled from the relay kit). Are you saying I need to buy the the wiring harness kit that provides direct power from the battery to each ballast? this was my concern as well but DDM said their company model F-150 runs the same kit without the harness. just wondering?

flickering is usually caused by not getting enough power. but you said you have a power wire and a ground running straight from the battery into the relay box?

on ddmtuning's site it says their hid kits don't include the wiring harness, which has the relay in it. the wiring harness will connect the ballasts directly to the battery and the only plug used on the rest of the hid kit is a plug that sends the signal to switch from low to hi.

Ill be willing to bet a ballast is bad. I had the same problem and it was replaced under warranty. That was through Retro-Solutions though.
It could be the relay also. How old is the kit? Make sure you dont have any corrosion inside the relay. Look for green and blue corrosion and clean the contacts.

It's brand new, the relay kit only comes with their hi/lo kits that you pay extra for, the wiring harness to connect the ballasts to the battery independently is a separate piece. The relay is clear of corrosion, but I've been trying to send the whole kit back for troubleshooting, their customer service just went down the drain for some reason. it was great before, now i can't get ahold of anyone through their RMA ticket site.

your kit does not have a relay unless the ballasts are connected to a little black box and then that box, relay, is connected directly to the battery. if your's does not then i think that is the problem.

If it has ballasts, you SHOULD have a relay.

yeah you need to have one, but most kits do Not come with one. you usually have to order them separately

Why did you not buy the kit that is the hi/lo one so you still have high beams? Does your state not require them? If they don't, then I guess you are ok with it, but since the truck uses a dual filament bulb from the factory for high and low beams, why not keep it that way and get the hi/lo kit? That's what I had to do to make sure I pass here in TX and it worked fine.

Factory wiring is not meant to handle this initial voltage and amp draw that an aftermarket HID kit requires. This is the reason for the relay so they can have a constant direct connection to the battery with the proper gauge wiring to support the power they need.

Get a relay kit or send it back and hope the ballast was bad. If you are having a hard time with their CS people, I'd just get the relay kit. You really need it anyway. Cheap and safe insurance to make sure the kit is performing as it should with no danger of electrical damage.

You need a relay kit, thats why they're flickering. The flickering is taken by one ballast taking more than 1/2 the power the stock wiring delivers, thus causing one ballast to get less than enough power to run it. A relay kit fixes this

Could be the bulb. A buddy of mine had a kit from DDM that was flickering. Ended up being the bulb.
