Need A Little Help..

Hey guys, My 05 F150 hasn't been starting the best very lately. I think the cold has finally taken over my battery. I've jumped it, it goes up to 14.7vlts, but then couple hours later I try and start and it doesn't have enought to start it...

Do you guys think that sounds like a battery issue? Didnt start until the cold really set in. And if it is the battery, what do you guys recommend.

I was looking at Autozone and they have a Gold- Duralast (850 Cold Cranking Amps) 1000 cranking Amps.. 8 yr warranty, 3 yr free replacement for $113.

Is there a better battery for less money or is that what i should expect to pay. I havne't bought a battery in a long time. I think this is the orginal battery in the truck. Thanks Guys

--I know I probably should have posted this in another section, but this gets most views, and I can't be late to work again... Sorry Mods... Trying to figure it out before I leave work today.

I am a fan of interstate batteries... You may not have let the alternator charge the battery long enough before you turned it off... Did you try to charge the current battery and add fluids if needed? Most of the time once you need to jump them, they are shot, but you never know...

Hope that helps!

Well I let it run for 5 min, then took it for a 5-10 min drive around my apartment edition.. then set there for another min or 2 before I turned it off... I had some valve stems replaced last week and they said they did a check of all my fluids and battery and they said they noticed it was the orignal and that it was a little weak.. I had to jump it that night drove it home, then the next day it wouldnt start.. jumped it again then thats when i ran it for a while..

Im thinking just the battery i shot. With Indiana temps, do you think 850 cold cranking amps is enough, or is that overshooting it.

I am not sure on recommended cranking amps. You could buy a slightly higher crankin amp battery than ford recommends if you are worried about it. Not sure it would harm anything. I know with boats, the more the better with these big 200+ hp outboards. I never spend more than 100.00 on a battery... Nuts IMO...

I had the exact same issues with mine. It was a bad battery. I just replaced it last night with the Everstart Maxx 65N from Walmart. 3yr free replacement and 850 CCA, 1000 Amps at 32 degrees. It was around $75. My truck has never started so easily, even when it was new. The extra cranking amps make a big difference. Their batteries get good reviews from consumer reports, etc also.

Replace the battery before you are stranded. I got the high amp heavy duty Interstate from Sam's for $79. Works great.

I ended up going with the Gold Top- Duralast (850 Cold Cranking Amps) 1000 cranking Amps.. 8 yr warranty, 3 yr free replacement for $101 then extra $12 to get rid of my old battery... and soon as I put that thing in took a few seconds to crank then it fired right up... then this morning (30degree's) started real quick.. I'm impressed. The battery got great reviews from where I read. I hadnt read much on the Everstart.. but I guess all that matters now is that it starts.

I was on the original battery and starting to have issues. I just purchased that exact same battery last week. Truck starts much better now. Hopefully it will last a long time.
