edge and CAI

I have a 2004 screw 5.4 with a home made CAI and just bought a edge evo ( man what a difference ) and was wandering what setting gets the best MPG ( when driven normal ) .....also I think I read here somewhere that the edge and a CAI would give me a too lean condition...is this correct ???

thanks

I read that to and was told to get cutom tunes from " POwer hungry performance" But I just fooled around with the setting on my edge and got it running awsome! Truck is an animal now

I'm with you...

I have an 04 with a CAI. I just installed the edge last week. I'm using the 87 perf tune right now since I already had 35 gallons of it in my tank..haha. I've read about the lean condition but I haven't thrown any codes yet. So I would imagine that if it was terribly lean (as in outside the acceptable parameters), it would throw a CEL...sound correct?

If it was horribly lean yes you would get a CEL. But running a little lean for an extended period will have the same effect. The results will just be prolonged.

I will never understand you guys that insist on running a CAI on a canned tune when it has been proven over and over that you are doing permanent damage to your engine. All for a measly 7 or 8 hp. Just makes no sense whatsoever to me.

Alot of people rape the rig for awhile and trade it in. As long as it's traded in before it breaks whats it matter to them?

I have never thought that way about any piece of machinery, so I guess that is why I don't understand the concept. I was taught to take care of any machine to help it perform at it's safe optimum.

EDGE Evolution tuners can't be custom tuned to compensate for the CAI. You would need to have your Evolution converted to a Gryphon by Power Hungry Performance. Once that is done, Bill can write custom tuning which will compensate for the CAI and give you safe horsepower gains without running lean. Some of the 04 F150s have been measured dangerously lean just running stock tuning and factory intake and they did not throw a CEL. Neither the stock tuning or the EDGE canned tuning can compensate for the different size and shape of aftermarket CAIs which relocate/reposition the MAF sensor.
