light on shifter?

I have a 2005 FX4. The other night I was backing out of the drive way and wasnt sure if I had it in reverse. I looked down at the center console shifter and I couldnt tell which gear I had it in because it was so dark. I went brain dead and now cant remember if it had a light in the shifter that may have went out? Since at night time I cant see which gear its in now. So can someone tell me the next time at night if your gears R, N D ect light up or glow in the dark ect.

Thanks!

I have an 06 but I'm pretty sure it would be the same.

YES, there is a light under the PRND area in the console.
They light up green like the dash lights.

mine wasnt out but the plastic holder that holds it in place somehow broke.

You can lift up on the shift plastic surround and it will lift up. If you lift from the back of the shifter area and just in front of the center consule storage it will pop off. You can access the bulb that way.

I just did this last weekend and this was the easiest way I found to do it.

First off, the bulb is a bulb #168. So start there

Lift the center console lid up so its out of the way. Then grab the front cupholder and the back of the console where the lid latches and pull up. That whole assembly with the cupholders and aroudn the shifter will come up as one piece and snap free.

If you are sitting in the driver seat while doing this, the bulb and bulb harness are at the rear of the shifter closest to the driver side. Twist it a 1/4 turn to the left, towards the driver, and out will come the bulb.

Install is opposite of removal

Mine just blew out also. Did you get the bulb at your local auto part store or is it dealer item?
Thanks!
