What to look for when buying

I'm looking at purchasing a 2004-2007 F150 Super Crew King Ranch or Lariat and I was wondering what problems I should be looking for when looking at one other than the obvious oil, tranny fluid, etc.. I have read there are some spark plug problems on the 2004's but what about the other years. I'm going to be looking at some higher mileage ones as that is where my price range is. Thanks in advance!

The spark plug issue continued til the '08 model year. And when you find one you better make sure they change the plugs for you before you buy it! There are other problems with the '04's and '05's but I'm sure those who have experienced the problems 1st hand will chime in.

Well I have a '04 scab so I will tell you the problems I've had with mine. Now, keep in mind, that just because I've had these problems, doesn't mean all '04 owners have had the same problems. But some of these problems are VERY common on these trucks.

Spark plugs breaking off when changing them. Some have had success some haven't.

Cam phazers- The constant knocking and ticking may drive you insane. Do a search on this.

3rd brake light leaking.......very common
AC drain tube clogging up causing water to back up into passenger floor board.
I had to replace the tourqe converter at 80,000 miles
Currently, I'm saving up money to have my timing chains replaced, along with tensioners, and everything else in the timing chain compartment. This is not very common, but from talking to 2 dealers in my area that this problem is starting to show its ugly face more and more, mainly in the '04's.

Hope this isn't going to run you off from buying a f-150. Like I said, there are alot of owners on here that hasn't had a problem, but there are alot that has, some have had major problems with only a few thousand miles. Still I love my F-150 and don't regret buying it. Its the best looking, most comfortable trucks on the road.

When its all said and done, ALL truck makers Ford, Dodge, Chevy are gonna have there problems. Just visit other truck forums and read all the problems their having. If you do buy a F-150 you will be glad you did...........or you may not.
