Remote Start, Fact v Fiction
Remote Start, Fact v Fiction
Okay, I know there has been a million posts out there on this topic.
But, here's my question/dilema.
I've got a BOA remote start that I have yet to install. But now that I know I'm keeping the truck for a while I want to put it in, or another one.
Here comes my questions.
1. Should I install the BOA? Anyone done this specific install? OR
2. Would it be better to get another brand? Such as one from Ford?
Really, how many manufacturers make remote starts? What's the real difference in the different brands?
I'm kind of on a budget so using the one I have would be great. But if it's smarter to get another one, or have someone install it I could try and budget for it.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, guys and gals.

Hopefully I can answer most of these for you.
BOA is made my Directed Electronics. They make Viper, Clifford, Python and others. I have heard alot of good things about Directed. Don't know if this is a cheaper brand they make or not. If you are on a budget, I'd probably go for it. I have a Code Alarm remote start that I got for about $60 and it does what I want it to without a problem.
I don't know about the Heritage, but if you have a "new model" '04 and up, you will need a bypass kit for the transponder key. If I remember, there are two basic types. A 791 "box" that needs you to put a programmed key in it. And a XK04 that will learn the code from your key. I went with the XK04, and it cost me almost as much as my remote starter. Personally, I didn't like the idea of a cut and programmed key being left in the truck. But that's my thought.
The install wasn't too bad. I found a site that has wiring charts and some pictures for my '06 F150. www.directwholesale.net It was an invaluable resource. There were some great pics. I also got info to install one on my wife's Jeep Liberty. If you take your time and are pretty decent doing some wiring, it shouldn't be a problem. I didn't solder my wiring, I just used splices and electrical tape.
Hope this helps you out.

So, I'm getting conflicting information about where the wires are that I need to get to. The manufacturer website says that the BCM is on the drivers side rear cabin wall. Yet from previous posts on here it seems you only need to get under the stearing column and dash. I would obviously trust the people here more but want to make sure I am planning my attack correctly.
So, question is do I need to remove my rear seat? Or get to the BCM back there. Or do I only need access to the stearing column area?
The beauty of this install is I have an STX, no door locks, etc.
I hope it will be easy...
Thanks

Also, anyone know the exact wires I need to cut/splice for the immobilizer?
Or is it best to install the loop over the ignition lock?
The instructions on the immobilizer with the xtra key aren't great and I couldn't find anything on their website.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
