Replace front shocks/spring - question
I have a broken spring so I need to get new springs anyway. I looked up the part on Oreilly's web site and see this is the correct part for the complete assembly. I won't buy from the place in the link but I just want you to take a look for me. Here it is: http://www.woodys-auto-supply.com/au...rod=MON-171361
If I buy this, it's really as simple as unbolting the old one and bolting in the new one, right? What's the bare minimum of what you MUST remove to replace this as a single unit? I'll be buying new tires soon anyway and I'll get an alignment at that time so me not getting an alignment right off the bat is not an issue since I'm getting tires/alignment soon anyway. I simply want to avoid paying a much higher price at the dealer and do this at home.
1. Any special tools needed? I think not since it's a complete unit and the spring and all will be replaced together.
2. What's absolutely must be removed to replace this as a single unit?
3. Anything I missed???

i dunno if that comes with the spring.. it just says the strut. I could be wrong though.
as far as replacing it, its not all that bad. there is a how-to in the technical articals. The only specal tool i can think of is the lower bolt that hold the strut assm to the lower control arm.. its a big bolt. lol. i believe its either a 27 or 30 mm.
also, you will need spring compessors if the springs are seperate from the strut assm.

Well, after checking the prices and so on, I think I'm just going to have the dealer do it. New tires (Wrangler Silent Armor), front shocks, springs and that's it. I'll do the rear shocks myself. I don't have the time to do the fronts at home. Especially if I run into trouble.
Update. I posted a blog entry about it. Photos of the new parts installed
