IAT high with Gotts mod

Hope everyone can follow me. I had a 4.6 that I done the gotts mod to. I noticed that my edge evo would read IAT 99% of the time within 1-2 degree of the outside temp according to my instrument cluster. I did the mod tonight on my new truck with the 5.4 and took it for a cruise down 287 and noticed the IAT never got any closer than 12 degrees. Do you guys think I did not get the 3" pvc pushed through the second hole on the fenderwell? Or is there something about the 5.4 that keeps it from getting cooler air than the 4.6

check the seal between the inlet tube and the pvc pipe...and then make sure the PVC is firmly in the fender opening

sounds like you are sucking hot air from the engine bay.

new truck right? if you are seeing this result while traveling highway, this makes me think your Outside Temp Sensor is reading differently. at speed, all intakes will pretty much read ambient temperature. there is just too much airflow.

Yes new truck for me. So I am still learning it, although I do not feel my outside air temp sensor is off that far. I have only gauged it by what the local weather peolpe claim that the temp is in the mornings and it has been right on with them. I am leaning more toward not getting the pvc through the second hole of the fender well. I was reading temps as high as 100 yesterday and it was a nice cool day here in Texas. I will do some more investigation when the sun comes up.

Same thing with my 5.4 when I did that. It is around 6-8 with a CAI now, my 4.6 is always the same as outside or 2 deg below. It drove me crazy. I think the design of the 5.4 gets hotter than the 4.6.

I have always made my own type of CAI of sorts and I even snorkeled the 5.4 to infont of the radiator and still had a 12+.

HB04, I am thinking you may be right on the 5.4 just being hotter. I did infact not have the tube pushed through the second hole of the fender well. I fixed that and and made certain there were no other leaks and took it for a spin. I ran it down the higway at about 65 and could only get it to within 8* of the outside temp. I guess I will just have to settle for what I get and move on.

The reason your IAT is reading higher is because of where your IAT is in the 3v's as compared to the 2v's. The 3v's the IAT is built into the MAF which is located in the lower intake manifold and the 2v's have it about midway down the intake tube. Your motor runs about 190 degrees and 8 degrees off ambient is quite good.
