Alignment or Adjustment???

I have a question for those of you more mechanically inclined.
When driving and going straight, my steering wheel is turned just left of straight (or about 11pm on the dial). My alignment feels fine, does not pull while breaking or not breaking, goes straight when I take my hands off the wheel. Is there an adjustment I can have made to get my steering wheel straight? or is this an alignment issue without the telltale signs? Know waht i mean? I just want my steering wheel to line up straight when I'm going straight.

Thanks,
Steve

You will need to get it aligned with the steering wheel straight to fix the problem. If you recently had an alignment done and the steering wheel turned out that way I would take it back to the shop and have them redo it. If the steering wheel has moved on it's on then you definitely need an alignment anyway.

Its caused by one tire being toed out and one tire being toed in. When you drive they align themselves straight ahead, but they drag the steering wheel with it. It is usually caused by somebody doing a poor job aligning it or not doing a test drive afterwards. Easy fix.

mine is the same way, took it for the first alignment after the leveling kit it was way to the right took it right back and he got it closer to straight still not perfect. recently had one done after putting on new tires and told the (ford tech this time) it was off center to the right some he said no problem so now it sits slightly left about the same amount it sat to the right originally

If you want to try it yourself getting the steering wheel straight before dishing out more money for an alignment (If you really think it just needs straightened and nothing is out of whack) Jack the front of the truck up and loosen the jamb nut on the tie rod ends out at the wheel. If the steering wheel is left while going straight you will want to move both wheels to the left.

After you loosen the jamb nut, very carefully turn the driver side tie rod end out a very little bit. (A little turn goes a long way) Maybe like half of the length of the flat spot on the jamb nut. And then turn the passenger side inward the very exact same amount as the driver side. Tighten the jamb nut back down on both sides and take it for a drive. If its straight your good, if you went to far and your steering wheel is now to the right, jack it up again and take the tie rod ends back the other way a bit (very very tiny bit). If your still tilted a bit left go a tiny tiny bit further. Test it again.

When loosening and tightening the jamb nut make sure you put a wrench on the body of the tie rod end (the part of the tie rod end that has the ball stud on it) while tightening the jamb nut. and a wrench on the rod of the tie rod end while loosening the jamb nut. This helps to keep the rod part of the tie rod end from moving while tightening and loosening and moving in or out and throwing off what your trying to do.

I have done this a couple times on my truck because it seems like every shop around me cant get the steering wheel exactly straight, and i want it exactly straight. Only takes about 10 mins. And if you were going to take it for an alignment anyway, if you mess it up or cant get it the way you want it, let them fix it.
