CA-671 Alarm/Remote Start Installed

First off, big thanks to Travis from KCAutoSound! If it weren't for his detailed instructions and personal help I wouldn't have been able to do this myself. I installed it on a Saturday when he had four personal installs going on. Towards the end of the install I ran into a few problems but after several phone calls and some trial-and-error we got them sorted out. Any other electronic gadgets or audio stuff I will definitely buy from him. Great guy.
Big thumbs up!

I will mention I did this on this past Saturday. It was a light rain all day, so I propped an umbrella in my open door to keep me shielded from the rain. What a great day.

A few pics during the install:

Getting everything together

Pray to my duckie for luck

Ready to start wiring it all up

A little intimidating....glad Travis pre-wired this for me

This is the point when you go "what the hell am I doing?"

On to the ignition

Wrapping it up

All done (and dirty)

This unit is everything I wanted and more. It works perfectly and you gotta love the remote start on cold mornings. It was a blast installing this. I always love doing personal work on the truck.

Great write up...I want to do this too but it is intimidating! How long did it take you for the total install?

I bought a remote start from Travis last year to install in my girlfriends' 08 Focus and with his help the installation was a breeze. I'm looking forward to purchasing a remote start/alarm from him in a few weeks for my truck.

Check out his website and give him a call if need be

I didn't do any prep work beforehand. Start to finish took me about 5 hours. That includes getting tools together, taking panels off, proper wire connections (per his instructions, plus soldering and taping), etc. There was also an hour in there where I killed my battery. It's been weak since I got the truck and was about time to replace it, anyway. That took me about an hour.

So actual time of installation I'd say was between 3.5 and 4 hours. The only previous experience I had with anything similar was my audio system, and it's very basic. So I'd consider myself a beginner.

It is intimidating but Travis will get you through it no problem. I wouldn't have been able to do it without his instructions. The only real problem I had was after I finished and before putting panels back on. I tested the system and the lock button would lock the doors but disarm the system. We tried a few things and it ended up being two wires that Travis got backwards in his pre-wiring. No biggie. He figured that out over the phone (impressive) and told me exactly what to do to fix it.

Go for it! It's not that bad.

The pre-wiring and instructions help sooooooo much. I don't want to think how much more work that would have made without it.

Yeah, they do. Did you take a look at the installation manual that comes with the unit? It is only electrical circuits. They are basic and simplified, but you'd still have to look through the truck's manual and find the electrical diagrams to find the right color wires. That would have been a headache and taken so much longer.

Use travis @ kcautosound.com instead of the one listed on his site. I think the one on his site is kcautosound @ yahoo.com.

The first one I mentioned goes straight to his phone, so he can answer in a much shorter time period.
