"Rusto" shocks

Thought you all might get a good laugh at the Ranchos i just pulled off the rear with 30mo and just about 34k on them. No wonder the truck has been riding like an old Caddie...Bilsteins replacing them - less money, and better qality, no brainer. So far the best 30 minutes I've spent working on the truck in a while.

The boot was saturated with shock oil. The run was on the inside face so it was almost impossible to see. And look, no hands to compress the shock.

And this would be why...

I had disassembled and clean these after the 1st winter as they did not rotate at all. And I put 3 coats of auto clear before installing them as the same rust appeared on my last F150s set.

That's amazing! Is that the shock that likes to rust up, or is it where you live do you think?

Pretty sure its the quality. They were visibly rusty after only a few months and the same thing happen on my '99 with the Rancho RSX.

I guess you never wash or look under there.

You should take care of the Bilstiens and they will take care of you.

Wow! This really makes me rethink getting the Rancho 4" lift + RS9000XL shocks. Too much $ to have this happen.

That is insane. I put a set of Ranchos on her 2K F150 a few yrs back, her dad has the truck now and they still look ok.
