"wet carpet along channels??"
"wet carpet along channels??"
Ok guys, I have seen some of the post but what is the fix and how do I do it? I have noticed in the front and rear of my 04 screw, the carpet is wet along the floor panels, this has happened more than once now and is annoying! Some say ac condenser but that would not be cause its on both sides of my truck, some say the elbow needs to be added to the AC drain where it goes out of the truck...well wouldn't that be on one side only?? The only thing that makes sense to me as to why BOTH sides are wet is the 3rd brakelight issue and I haven't had that addressed yet, the truck has 155k and is way out of warranty so doubt if they do anything so may have to use the silicone technique or the weather stripping someone mentioned in one post! Please help!!

I have been living with a slight "musty" odor especially after rainstorms for the past 5 years.
Didn't realize I still had a leak, but heard "sloshing" water on the passenger side. Pulled the door sill plate and found water flowing thru the channel with the wire harness in it. Also noted the jute backing on the carpet was soaking wet (dripping). Put a couple towels under the carpet and will
try to take some time this weekend to rip the stuff out.
I had not driven the truck for a few days during the monsoon we had here, so it is probably the source of the water and not the AC evap drain.
I had my 3rd brake light replaced and headliner done very early after purchasing my truck, thought the odor was something that didn't get cleaned but it has it's good days and bad. ...now I know why....
Dealer was excited about charging me $100/hr to chase down the leak.
Told him the truck may be out of warranty, but if it was due to the 3rd brake light still leaking, Ford better pick up the bill.
It's really hard to justify spending big $ to fix something that should never have occurred! I am tempted to trade it in, but on what? Another Ford? Doubtful....love my truck but the combination of tranny slipping, leaks and windows that fall apart....not sure it is worth keeping!
I am going to contact the dealer that fixed the brake light (also where I purchased it), see what they have to say.

Ok, took a few minutes and lifted all the mats up (have a large one covers the whole back floor). All the mats were damp on the backside.
Lifted the carpets in front on both sides....it was wet, but mostly on the passengers side....probably got a half gallon of water out of the jute backing on the carpet.
Do I pull the seats / interior pieces ? This ain't gonna be pretty!

It would be a good ideal to pull it all out to dry and hang the carpet over a fence to dry/air out.
Once I stapled carpet out of my other car to the fence then used a pressure washer to do a nice deep cleaning. Came out looking great and then I sprayed the carpet down with some lacquer to give it some shine. That's what was recommended to me at the time years ago and it worked. There may be a better practice today though.

Ive had this problem as well. I have an aftermarket LED 3rd brake light( dont buy Recon products!) and it didnt even come with a sealing strip or silicone or anything. I had to go buy some silicone sealer and its still leaking. I guess its time for more silicone or so get some flat rubber stripping to glue on and seal it. Project for next weekend. Thank god I have rubber floor instead of carpet.
