Buying assistance

Hey everyone, i'm new to the forums and hope to be around for a while. I'm about to make my first f150 purchase and am wondering if i'm getting a good deal or not. I'm currently looking at an 2006 f150 lariat with 39k miles and they are asking 27000 for it. What kind of offer is reasonable on this truck? NADA says that retail is 26,900. I'm pretty new at negotiating prices on trucks and any advice would help. Thanks in advance!

The mileage is low, but that sounds really high to me. Just as an example... I got a loaded Xlt with 362xx on it in Feb 2wd ext cab with the 5.4 for 11k. Some have had similar deals. Way too much IMO for that truck.

I agree, way too much. I would expect somewhere around 19,000 to 20,000. It sold new for about 35,000 and is 4 years old.

You can definitely talk them down. Simply tell them you want their absolute best price on the truck. Then go from there.

I would negotiate a spark plug change into the deal if I was you. And ask to watch. This may save you a lot of grief in the future during a plug change.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try and get the deal done during my lunch break. The best part is, that if the deal isn't right i can easily walk away.

here is a link if you are interested in taking a look at it.

Ahh a couple aftermarket pieces and the dealer marks up the price and still only pays trade in value to the previous owner. Love how they do that hahaha. I would not pay what they are asking either. If they came down several thousand I think it would be good.

Tell me what you think of this. offer them 26k out the door, and they have to provide new tires, spark plugs, and a spray in bed liner, as well as take my trade (which will be rolling over 2k in negative equity). Does that sound like a good deal?

That does not sound bad, especially if you can pick the tires. Looks like it has 35's on 20s, those will not be cheap. Good luck, sounds like your gonna be in for a fight.

I hope not too much of a fight. I'm in a pretty good position. Basically, i like the truck i have now, but i want a full size. The truck i have is fully loaded and if the deal isn't right, i have no issues with keeping my current truck and walking away. Basically the fight can't last more than about 20 min because i won't have more time than that (on my lunch).

20K or you walk... and I would not even do that bc you say you are in a good position but with negative equity on your trade it does not sound like it... just trying to help you out.

True. The reason i feel i'm in a good position is because the negative equity on my truck is minimal, and i'm ok with keeping it until it's paid off if I have to. I appreciate all the input. You've given me the confidence to go in there and demand a better price.

Wow, that's really high. I paid less than that three years ago for my 2005 Lariat that had fewer miles and was newer at the time. No way the navigation, lift, tires, wheels, steps, etc. cost that much more. And, like others have pointed out, no way the dealer has that money in the truck either. Sounds like you're on the right track, but I wouldn't pay that much for that truck. Good luck negotiating.

You could probably buy a new XLT supercrew 5.4, 4x4 for $30k out the door.
