One little puddle:eek:
One little puddle:eek:
To make a long story short, I got stuck. You are probably wondering why? I was driving down a dirt road and came across one little puddle. Despite needing new tires, I thought no big deal I will simple put her in 4X4 if needed. Well, I needed it and guess what no 4X4??? I could not get it to enguage. No 4X4 Hi or Low. I will greatly appreciate any in put into trouble shooting this problem. Thanks for the help!

take a hammer and tap on the shift motor. give her a few loving taps...then try 4x4 again
it is a pill bottle shape on the back of the t-case. about the size of a Vitamin C bottle

there is a contact switch that requires the motor to actually shift...then it triggers the 4x4 lights
Tylus and Patman - Thanks for the help! The tapping worked!!!! I was able to enguage both Hi and Low. Now for the Why? Why didn't it work the first time???

It's been a problem since 1992 when the first electric shift t-case motors were introduced.
the motors aren't sealed that well. water works it's way into the casing and starts corroding the contacts. eventually enough contacts are corroded over, and the motor doesn't work.
the hammer trick knocks some of the corrosion loose
but it's only a temporary fix. eventually enough corrosion will occur that the tapping won't work anymore.

this is why I suggest everybody shift into 4x4 at least 1-2 times a month. keeps things lubricated, and it keeps that motor functional.
your shift motor may last 1 week...or many years. just depends on the rate of corrosion build up
After you get it working try and shift into 4x4 high at least once a month for a mile or two. Gives the linkages some movement and lubrication. During a rain or on a dirt road is a great time to do this. I do this and haven't had any shifting issues with my t-case.
