upper engine ticking???

04 5.4 starting to get a ticking sound almost sounds like an arcing noise on the top of the motor. everything appears to be running fine. you can only hear it at an idle or when standing next to the truck. whos has run into this??? it is not as loud as a lifter would be either
thanks for any info guys

Probably just the fuel injectors. They make a light ticking when openning and closing.

I have had this crap since I bought it and continuously get told that it is the cam phazer (which is fixable) and that it is harmless. Still annoying though

The cam phaser is normally more of a knock. Louder and does not fade as the engine is reved. It is usually on one side or the other. The injector noise is a light ticking, more like lifters and goes away as engine revs

As you describe it sounds like injectors. I could quiet down the clicking with my 01 with Neutra. It should be the same for an 04. Run two bottles of Shaeffer's Neutra and if the ticking goes away it was the injectors. Or get the injectors cleaned with a machine like a motorvac.
