Question Wear and tear related to specific style of driving.

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well. Most of you are going to raise strong objections about how I drive, but please refrain from displaying them here. I know, I know. I'm trying. The first step to fixing the problem is admitting you have one.

I drive my truck like a sports car. I have a lead boot, I make hard accelerations, I take turns a tad faster than I should, and I reach speeds up to 90 on the expressway.

While I am working on correcting these bad habits, I'd like to know if there is any specific issues I should be concerned with based on how I have driven the truck thus far. Should I pay attention to a certain part or a wear pattern on the tire from sharp turns?

Thanks for your help guys,
Anthony

Your tires are going to take the bulk of the punishment.

Go buy a sports car. You will end up killing yourself or someone driving a 6000lbs machine that way. I am guilty of this as well, but not to that extent. I do not do hard acceleration, as that is hell on your WHOLE drive line, as well as the wallet with gas where it is. Your tires are the least of your worries about what is going to wear out. The brakes on these trucks are not the best, and you can't stop from 90 like a smaller vehicle. I wish nothing bad on you, but hope that I never come in contact with you on the road. Figuratively, or literally.

your rear end. i was kinda hard on my old truck with 35's and rear end completely destroyed at 34k miles.

and as already said your tranny.

and tires.

sure your engine isn't like being revved high constantly.

and the "cool" factor that you think your getting from everyone, you aren't.

I bought my truck with 20k miles on it and have driven it hard from day one. Its got close to 120k miles on it now and the only thing that wore out was the steering assembly, and that was from driving 50-60 mph on some terrible dirt roads in utah, so i basically consider that tore up instead of wore out. i did have to replace the tranny, driveshaft, rearend at 75k miles but that had nothing to do with my driving style. the truck still drove like a new one up until that point.

My style of driving is relative to the conditions and the situation around me. I didn't say I am a bad driver or that I am reckless with the truck. I am a cautious driver and know that the design of the truck prevents me from making quick maneuvers, etc.

So, in accordance with my request in my original post, let me edit your reply so that it is wholly pertinent to the topic at hand:

My mother told me I'd never get a girlfriend driving a truck. While she was wrong, you can trust that my decision to own a pickup was purely for the functional aspect of it, not any "cool" factors.

Thank you guys.

My wife couldn't agree more X2

I used to drive my Ranger into the ground, I think it was due to the 5 speed, when I got the 150 I just have no desire to beat on it, that's what the 67's for I guess!

Post your VIN so we can make sure not to buy your truck down the road.
