2004 Xl's looked so much better
My friend has a 2004 XL reg cab long bed with the 4.6L. He got it for $2000 with 100K miles. Definitely a good deal. It's in perfect condition with out a spec of rust.
I must say, I like the look much better. Looks more like an XLT... with chrome bumpers, chrome grille surround, chrome wheels and PTM upper bumper pad. |

It is surprisingly cheap though to make yours look like that with the correct optioned 05-08 XL.

Again, GreenBuck, your truck looks awesome. Also, I noticed this in your sig "XLT seat covers waiting to be installed." Do you have the cloth or vinyl XL seats? If you have the cloth, I'd stick to those over the XLT's. Those covers stain with a single drop of water. The cloth XL seats are so easy to keep clean. Just thought I'd throw that out there. |
Sorry, but I have to ask....

The '04 xl looks better compared to what? Not sure I understand your post. And also you say that the xl cloth seats are so much easier to keep clean, and again I'm not sure what your trying to say, cause the cloth seats in an xl are a PITA to keep clean, THEY stain with single a drop of water. I have covers on my seats and have never had an issue with them. Are you talking OBS or NBS?

I was comparing with my truck which is an '08 XL. Again, same with the seats. Mine are very easy to keep clean.

What's different about the'04s compared to the '08s? When I look at yours, it looks like mine as far as body and equipment. I thought they didn't change the BS until '09. I know they had 2 different body styles in '04, the '97-'03 BS and the '04-'08 BS. Are your cloth seats like a canvas type cloth? Sorry for all the questions, I've never looked at an '08 up close.
As for the seats, I don't think they changed the fabric. Mine just wont stain. For instance, I was at U-Haul having a hitch installed today. The guy working drove my truck into their garage. When I first saw his hands, I knew I was going to have some cleaning to do after. Sure enough, when I get back in my truck after the installation, what do I find? Giant oily hand prints all over the center seat. When I got home I scrupped it with a damp terrycloth towel. The only cleaner I ever used is dish soap that's very diluted. I've managed to get any type of stain out. There is not a single spot on any of my seats. I was merely pointing out some differences in my original post. |
Thanks for explaining!

It's cool man. There are a few slight differences. First off, the '04 XL came standard with chrome bumpers, chrome grille surround, chrome wheels and the paint to match upper bumper piece. In 2005 XL's came standard looking like yours and mine with the black textured upper bumper pad, gray bumpers and steel wheels. Also, the bumpers and fog lights on 04 - 05's are different then 06 - 08 models. I think they also used 4 leaf packs on 04 and 05 and switched to 3 for the 06+.

Just noticed this one again. Thanks for the compliments. It would probably cost about $1500 to do the conversion. When I bought mine there was one next to it that was about $1000 cheaper with the MSRP... the upgrades on mine over it were chrome bumpers, chrome clad steel wheels, tinted rear windows, keyless remote, and running boards. I would have taken either one for the deal I was getting (MSRP for mine was 33K and the other was 32K, but I got mine for 24K, and I really wanted mine but tried not to show it when I bought it. All of my mods listed in the sig and a bit more have cost 2500 including installation and subtracting what little I made selling their parts they replaced. I have about another 1000 left of mods that I want to do but can't afford them right now.
With the XLT seat covers they are sitting in a box right now. I agree with the staining thing and may or may not install them, but not right now either way due to work and other stuff in my life. I only paid $40 for them so I don't have much of an investment. |
Start with the tires and rims, roush grill and some tint.
