spark plugs

Well my truck hit 106k miles. its time for some maintnance. I am wanting to do my plugs, fuel filter, and a couple small odds and ends.

I was curios what symptoms were for plugs needing changed.

reason i ask is, truck has started a rougher idle, rpms tend to bounce, and stalled once or twice on me.

i have kept up with the basic oil changes and air filter. however moneys been tight, my insurance just hit and being 16 doesnt help.

still looks good for a 05. nice wash and wax.

Sound's like It could be plugs, or fuel filter, just do both. Can hurt!

i honestly dont know. purchased the truck with 87k, must say it drove better then though.

i will likely do the fuel filter myself do to the fact that a plug change is 400 bucks.

Clean your intake manifold and replace the air filter first. Make sure to use electrical connector cleaner on your intake or expect the MAF sensor to get destroyed.

If you have a K&N or other oil cotton filter or if there is a lot of dirt and oil in your intake, that could explain why you're idling rough.

I would do the plugs and fuel filter. If you have the K&N, you may be over oiling. I would clean the MAF. Easy to do. Every 3000 is overkill too, I go 15,000 on mine.

yes, it measures the air flow for fuel metering. Remove the electrical plug, then there are 2 torx screws holding it in. Do not touch the little wire inside, that will break it. Use electical cleaner spray and spray that little wire. Let it dry and reinstall.

hah thats simple enough. i am driving the brothers truck today (lifted 05, 5.4, 37's, 22's), however next weekend i get to get proactive.

after looking at the fuel filter how to, i realized how bad mine was. i may just have the lube place do it for twenty bucks when i change my oil.

If you clean your K&N that much that MAF is probably so oiled up it'll run rough for sure.

I've learned not to overclean the K&N and when I re-oil I use paper towels to pad down the filter to remove excess oil that normally would wind up in the intake, i.e. MAF sensor.

Let us know how that works out for you.

That over oiling is a myth. Here's all anyone needs to know about K/N and oiling. They submerge the MAF in their filter oil and it still reads properly.

The emissions system on the vehicle is what fouls the MAF.

Actually it's true. I pulled my MAF a few years ago after spraying the K&N too much and it was covered with red oil, I mean completely covered. Now I dab the extra oil with paper towels to remove it. I haven't had to re-clean the MAF since.
