Buying 04 FX4...have some questions

Hey, I think I finall found the truck I want. First off, do you think it's a good deal? It's an 04 silver FX4 super cab with 6.5' bed. It has the 5.4 Triton, keyless entry, black leather, center shift, etc. I guess the only thing it doesnt have is a sunroof. It looks like its in GREAT shape...no body damage. It has 70,000 miles on it.

I can get it for $13k. Is that a good price? I haven't been able to find anything similar for under $15k, and I've been looking forever! lol

I want to take the stock fender flares off (I dont like how they look when black)...is this hard? Will they have double sided tape under them? Eventually I might get them painted silver.

I think thats all the questions for now...Im very excited...any help you can give is VERY appreciated!

Thanks!

decent price I guess...about the $$$ that I'd consider for a Screw though

mainly depends on the condition....and as you said, you've been looking.

if you are happy for it, do it. Dealership or Private Party? If Dealership, make them repalce the spark-plugs first.

as for the flares, here is a picture of my FX4 with them removed. You will have multiple holes on each fender...recommend you leave 'em installed.

Shibby, get a set of take off flares from a lariat and paint them silver then just swap them out. Tylus is right, the factory flares are held in with clips and bolts so don't take them off until your ready to put the new ones on. I just swapped mine out a few weeks ago.

Sounds like a clean truck and I know the market has really changed in a year but I picked my '04 scab with all the same options super clean with 39k miles for around $12k.

have you checked KBB on it? That sounds a little high. My truck is basically the same but has less miles and a sunroof and when I checked it about a month ago it was a little lower than that.

Is it private party or from a dealer?

You might want to get them to change the spark plugs before you buy it!

Sounds decent, defiantly have them replace the plugs, dealers will do almost anything to sell a used truck right now.

I'm buying it from a private party. You really think that price sounds high? I have been looking for over a year, and everything like that has been ATLEAST $15k around here. Even XLTs go for over $13k. The KBB value is $15.8. I've been checking 'completed' auctions on eBay too, and they always seem to go for atleast $15k-$17k. *shrug*

Man that sucks about the holes, I had no idea that's how it was fastened on. Damnit!

Where are you from, it might be regionally more expensive where you are.

I'm in NY. KBB says private party value is like $15.8, and dealer value is $18k.

I've been checking eBay, Autotrader, Want Ad Digest, Craigslist...all of them....for over a year, and this is the lowest I've ever seen an FX4 with this mileage. Even all the FX4s for sale in what seems to be the cheapest area in America for trucks (Texas), has them averaging more than $13k. lol

Anyone know roughly what a body shop would charge to paint the flares?

Thanks!

$200-300 if you did all of the prep-work

add probably another $100 if you had them do the sanding

that is why you should scour eBay and grab a set of take-offs. or post a Classified thread and see if someone wants to swap you.

Buy it. If it's the truck you want and you can afford it. Don't let other people tell you it's way overpriced or they could find one for 2k less. It's all about what you want and what you can afford.

Oh it's cool, I like the input from different people. I just honestly have been looking for over a year in every online auction and classifieds site there is, and I've never seen anything like this for under 14 or 15. If people are getting them cheaper than this, please let me know where, cause I sure as hell have never seen them! lol

just go negotiate on the one at a Dealership

people always list up vehicles for $1-2,000 more than their actual bottom line price

They may be saying $15,000...but if you walk up with $13,000 in hand, I bet you drive it away
