Power Steering Issue

Hello all,

I'm hoping someonee can shed some light on a power steering issue I just had come up tonight. I have an 06 Lariat S-crew with about 56k miles on it. When I drove home this evening the steering was sticking about every 4-6 inch turn of the wheel - Either right or left turn. It's like the power steering quits intermittently throughout the turn.

My PS resevoir is full. Does not appear to be leaking at all. I did however notice the sound of a loose belt (squeaking) about a week prior to this today.

Any insight/ideas are appreciated. Thanks very much.

there has been a rash of similar problems lately, check and lube the joints on the steering shaft, that seems to be the fix.

Thanks for the advice. I'll rip it open tonight and give it a shot. Any specifics on lube for those joints? (White Lith or will plain old WD spray work?)

Thanks again.

Nothing to rip open, its the joints on the shaft coming from the steering wheel, under the hood not the ones inside the rack itself. As for what lube, IDK, I've only got 21K on mine so I don't have that problem yet.

Ahhh! Well, if it's really this easy a fix, I'll be pretty psyched.

Thanks again.

Well...It worked.

When in doubt, try the cheap fix first.

Thanks a lot.
