Changing mirror caps

I posted this in the 09 section but haven’t got much help so I thought I’d post here too since the mirrors are the same. I got my new chrome mirror caps to replace the black ones for my 09. I have searched and came across the procedure for removing these mirror caps. The question I have is on the clips that hold the glass to the motor. Are they the bigger looking ones or are they the little smaller ones? And how do you go about getting all the clips free? Just thought I would get some hints and suggestions before attempting this again. Trying not to break the glass is my goal. After getting the glass removed then there are 4 torx screws to remove and the mirror cap will come off is what I read.

Here is a picture of the glass removed. I circled what I believe is the clips holding it on. And the way I see it there are 8 of them. How do you go about releasing all these clips to get this glass off?

If I didn't care about the old black covers can I get them off without taking the glass and torx screws out? Looking at the new ones they just have 4 clips holding them on.

All I did was to wedge a screwdriver in there between the glass and the hub it's clipped onto and it pops right off.

I ordered the Ford OEM chrome mirror caps for an 09. They look just like the old ones so they should work.

I will try wedging the screw driver in there and see if it will come. Thanks.

Part numbers for the chrome mirror caps for the 08 TT mirrors are 8L3Z17D742AA and 8L3Z17D743AA

Tasca has them for about $12 a piece

for the TT mirrors, once you have the 5 screws out, you can open the 2 pieces enough to release the tabs for the skull caps. at least i could....

after reading on my service manual DVD, the TT mirrors dont come apart. i guess something bc of the way it extendeds. you can tell by the procedure to replace the turn signal is different from the regular mirrors. it says to remove the back on them, but on the TT, it says to pry open enough to use a flat blade tool to release the tab. sucks bc now i dont know how to install some type of lights in the mirror for the front for a clearance light...
