That's terrible, man, sorry to hear it. It will all work out for you. You should look into getting an alarm system now that this has happened.


I agree that this was an inside job. Someone mentioned what better place to look than a Ford dealership. In reality, I'd guess that 95% of trucks at the Ford dealership are stock. If I was a thief I wouldn't be going there to steal electronics equipment.

Seems to me the person had to have known that you had all that stuff in there. Have you brought this idea up with the manager?

 

yes i have. Police were the first to suggest it, service manager said he would look into it

 

Oh well that's reassuring. If the service manager is looking into it you can rest easy knowing the culprit will be found.

man that sucks, it was in their possession so i would think thats their responsibility to take care of it. i had to leave my truck at the dealership for a week a couple times and i had to get something out of the truck one day and noticed they had left it unlocked. so i took my stereo out (they never even noticed). then a few days later they had it parked inside a locked fence and i needed something out of the truck, i took one guess at the combination on the lock (last 4 digits of their phone #) and i was in there, truck was still unlocked. finally when they got done with the truck the bill was like $4k and i didnt have it, so i just went up there with my spare key and got the truck. two weeks later they called me and told me my truck was ready and i could come pick it up lol. a couple weeks later i drove up there and paid the bill and they still didnt even know my truck was gone. they handed me my keys and told me it was parked around back.

 

That's horrible. It does seem like an inside job.

Who breaks the tiny back window to go into a vehicle. You can't reach any door locks, you actually have to crawl through it. Maybe they broke the window to make it look like a break in, when they actually had a key! It looks like they took their time to take everything apart.

 

thats exactly what i was thinking. i was looking at the pic to see if it looked like anyone crawled through that glass but i really cant tell from the pic. one thing i noticed that is odd is that the air bag light wire is still attached. i know if i was trying to get a stereo out i wouldve disconnected that and a thief wouldve probably just ripped it out to get it out of the way.

I bet you can get someone (cops or your detective) to dust for fingerprints around the radio bezel, especially since no one there should have been working in that area. Then check it against the employees working around your truck. I would pursue that route the strongest.

Last year when I wrecked my truck it was at an autobody shop when my wheels and tires were stolen off the truck. I noticed that they had left the truck unlocked with the special lugnut key for the wheels for it and asked them to keep the truck locked. A few days later I got the call telling me about the theft. The companies insurance denied my claim saying their client took all steps necessary to protect my vehicle. The autobody shop ended up giving me $3200 to shop for new wheels and tires, but then tried to add it to the insurance claim saying all 4 wheels were damaged in the accident. I called my insurance company and told them the story and my insurance never paid the claim on the 4 wheels so the autbody shop had to eat that $3200.

I figured from the start that it was an inside job because my truck was inside a locked gate and the thieves were able to get inside and somehow found the keys to a flatbed truck that they were able to load my tires on and drive away. There was surveillance camera footage (which was actually shown on TV during a story highlighting the amount of robberies in the area), but the company and the police said they couldn't make anything out.

 

They probably took their time taking it apart, because they knew they would be the ones have to fix all their damage. If they broke everything, all of that would have been replaced at the service department, meaning they would have to do all the labor. Inside job for sure.

 

As long as they didn't call you to tell you the truck was done and give you ample time to pick it up, it should be on their insurance. You should notify your insurance company anyway, but theirs should foot the whole bill INCLUDING a rental car while they're fixing your truck.

I work at a dealership and a customer's car got broken into and a bunch of stereo equipment got stolen. As far as I know, it had to go on his insurance because he insisted we finish his car by 1pm on Saturday so he could pick it up. We had documentation proving we notified him around noon to come get his car (gave him MORe than ample time to come get it especially since we had it done before the time he said he needed it) and it got broken into sometime Sunday night.

Dude, I would check all the other stores close to the area, the shopping centers and the Banks to see if they have any camera that is picking up the parking lot of the dealer at all??..I would then ask them if it would be possible to view their video footage on the day and est-time of the theft.. That is exactly what the cops would do if a violent crime had taken place.. You might get a pic of the vehicle entering and or leaving, then check the employees parking lot for the vehicle in question!!

99.9% chance it was prob an employee, that was IN your vehicle at some point!!

as of thurs aug 27, truck is back in my possesion. stealership replaced back glass at no cost, as for the stolen items its my insurance taking care of that. as of right now i'm driving with no stereo as i'm waitin on insurance to make up there mind. interestingly enough the direct replacement for the AVIC d3 is the new AVIC X910BT
