ABS Light

I have a '04 with 123,000 miles on it. I just completed a 2500 mile roadtrip. While driving, the ABS light would turn on for a few hundred miles and then go away. And eveytime I would stop and then restart the truck it would turn off. I would really like to know what is going on. Any suggestions?

sounds like its loose... it happens to me..ABS goes and coming back..

I just played with ABS wiring to be sure its all tightened..and it went away .

There are 2 hard wiring up front and one right top of rear end axle (center).

I tried using scan tool w my Superchip and auto zone and they couldnt read the code to tell me which one.

also trying do some search..

Just finished with the similar problem.... I replaced both front ABS sensors (I had picked them up off ebay for cheap a few months ago)...still had the on/off again abs light but now was starting to get more frequent. So I thought I would take it in to get the code read, the gentleman at a local shop told me the light would have to be on to read the code properly, but as like yours the light only sometimes came on... I think the ABS computer has a memory though and the guy at the shop knows squat..... so after doing a search on here, many people said their rear axle sensor was the culprit. I checked at the local Ford dealer and they wanted $100 CND. for the part. I see autozone in the states sells an aftermarket sensor for $22 U.S. I decided to take out the rear sensor and look at it. The sensor didn't look bad, but I wiped it all off, cleaned up were the wires plug in and reinstalled it. I then checked my rear axle fluid and it was low by about 750ml. I topped it off, and now with fingers crossed the ABS light has not came back on.....

Inspect the wiring that goes to the rear speed sensor on top of the differential. The wiring has a tendency to get chewed up and broken near the sensor on '04s for whatever reason. I think they repositioned/re-routed the harness on '05+ trucks.

If you mean the rear one, NAPA has it for $15.00.

I actually fixed it the problem. I bought a new rear wheel speed sensor, there are two different plugs. Of course mine is the one that no one has except for a few places on the internet and the dealer at the cheapest being $90 as opposed to the $15 one. But, that wasn't the problem. I found an actron abs scanner on sale at sears for $60. It told me that the rear wheel speed sensor circuit was at fault. After some looking around, I tugged on the wires a little and it turns out both wires were broken at the plug but the insulation was still intact. It took a while to figure out how to take apart the plug but I got and then re-crimped the wires. SUCESS!!!
