Need serious help identifying factory hitch!

My dealer seems to think my 2007 FX2 5.4L Supercab w/ tow package could only have some with a class III hitch... I thought it was IV! Are they giving me the short end of the stick here? How can I tell what my current hitch it before they replace it with a downgraded model (I was in an accident - destroyed bumper/pad/hitch/tow electronics) Even on my est. it says "w/o tow package" even though I obviously have the tow package...

Well the hitch is mounted to the frame and the bumper mounts to the hitch so if ur hitch mounts to the frame like older trucks do then u don't have a factory hitch

Was it a bumper hitch?
My tow package (not the hitch in the bumper, actual towing setup underneath) that came with the truck is class 4 (5K+ lbs)... This came from ford and is stamped on the bumper.

It is a class IV hitch. Are they saying the bumper hitch is a class III? What is your vin? You should be able to bring up the sticker on an 07. If you have the tow package, then you have a class IV hitch.

your dealer is a moron

the 2004+ F-150 doesn't have a Class III hitch.

If there is a reciever (Tow Package), then it is a Class IV. Period.

The non-Tow Package trucks are only rated to 5,000 lbs...so the bumper on them is technically a Class III.

My truck came with the factory tow package. I have the "frame mounted" factory hitch which bolts to the frame, and in turn the bumper bolts to the hitch and "sits" on top of it. The dealership seems to think that I have class III... I know my truck is rated at 7050 GVR (?) on the door panel. To me that screams class IV. The estimate reads:

"Repl bumper w/o distance control painted
Repl step w/o distance control w/o tow pkg
repl wire connector
Rpr reinforcement w/o trailer tow from 8/9/05
Repl LT Bumper mount bracket w/trailer towing outer
Repl RT Bumper mount bracket w/trailer towing outer"

So like... WTF? lol I just want to make sure my truck is the same as it came from factory so when I trade her in in two weeks she doesn't get knocked for being substandard

Is this the estimate from the dealer or the insurance? It sounds like the dealer is trying to scam the insurance by putting in a class III and then pocketing the difference. Like Tylus already said, the factory tow package on every '04-'08 F150 is class IV, period.

Don't settle for anything less then the OEM hitch with the OEM mounts. Nothing else is going to look right on that FX2.

x2

normally I'd say f 'em and get it from a junkyard...but the Reciever is an integral part of the rear bumper mounting.

I thought the hitch was a class IV when a class III is used with the weight distributing hitch stuff. In other words utilizing the weight distribution with a class III makes it a class IV. May be wrong.
