Cant agree more!

I had the edge on my 2005 f150 and it was crap compared to custom tunes...

I did notice a difference on my 08 when shifting compared to my 05 before any tunes on either... 08 felt much stronger and after PHP tunes My tranny shifts on a dime with the 33's

Good luck on the new trainnie.

I'm glad to here that your truck is back on the road. As there is nothing in the research column to show a correlation between tuners and tranny failures, I cannot say for sure about your issue...and the truth is that no one on the forum can either. Opinions are great, but I have read about tuner debates on the forum for five years and have decided that these are just opinions about what caused the failure. Now, IMO (it's a forum, so this is my opinion), these tuning modifications should not cause a mechanical failure like that. The most common problem that is very specific to any tuning device is programming errors. Locked out PCMs, wrong custom settings, and just plain corrupted files are the common issues that cover the vast majority of tuning problems. Actually, most of these problems would not be experienced if the instruction manuals were read cover-to-cover before connecting the tuner. If a reported gains of 10-25 HP and 30-50 torque actually causes these trannys to fry, then they are a heap of crap anyway. There are many examples of individuals with SC'ed 5.4s with needed tuning that have never had problems with mechanical failures, and these things would tax the limits of a stock tranny mechanically. No engineer in their right mind would market a product that is operating dangerously close to its maxium tolerances...including Ford engineers. As mass produced as these things are, I am surprised that there are not more failures. I tend to tally these failures up to a flawed part somewhere in the tranny, which has lots of parts. Maybe there was a flaw in the clutch when is was made that finally reared its ugly head? Who knows.

I would like to know the ratio of failed trannys which were "tuned" vs. those that failed that were stock in the past 5 years!....
