Help?

So, I'm thinking of adding a Ranch Hand front bumper replacement to my truck, it weighs around 180lbs, and I've read places our front bumpers weigh around 60-65lbs, I was wondering with that extra 120lbs how much more wear and tear would it do on my truck? Would it cause severe problems on breaking? I mean all I really have on my truck is struts because I'm 2wd. I know it's going to cause some wear and tear quicker, but how much quicker is what i'm really curious of. I was thinking some people have 37s and 22s and they don't always upgrade the breaks and never seem to have break problems. Any knowledge anyone has please share with me! Thanks..

Best thing you could do as a 2wd is to add a leveling kit if you havent already, and I wouldn't really worry about the brakes. I have a 4dr supercrew, 4wd, and I can damn near pull teeth with my stock brakes. I do plan on upgrading at some point, but I can't justify canning decent pads. The only reason I would is to get rid of some of the dust.

The other thing you could do is try to find stiffer shocks and/or springs?...Good luck!

I have a leveling kit, I do plan on replacing those crappy motorcraft shocks and struts with good Bilsteins, just only 20,000 miles on my truck I don't feel it's worth it at this point, but when/if I do get the ranchhand I will replace the struts shortly their after.

Thats a good idea. I understand not canning a good part just for the essence of wanting something different. I want new wheels, but no reason. Mine roll just fine. I will eventually get new ones, but no time soon!

If you carried 120lbs on your back, would it hurt your mileage? I just think about things like that. I wouldn't think it would be anything that would be measureable. I would not sweat it.

Yeah but 120lbs is a little over 1/2 of my body weight lol 120lbs on a 5500lb vehicle is minimal. I agree with ya though.

Exactly. Just keep that in mind when adding things that will adversely affect your MPG's. Heavy, 10ply tires, big heavy wheels, that tool box, a huge front bumper/grill guard...things like that arent bad if only one or two of them are used, but as you add, you decrease how far you can go on a gallon Have a good one.

pfff I don't know if I want to comment or not.

Do it! But like said before add a bit of lift with either some bilstien 5100 shocks or leveling kit cause you bring the nose down a bit.

I wouldn't be concerned with the breaks. Your MPG will drop a little with the added weight, but mostly with because it hurts the aerodynamics. It'll put a little more strain on your front end parts.

It's not really going to hurt you that bad.
