Hitch removal question

Hey guys... my truck was recently rear ended so I am going to have to replace the bumper. I figured since I have to replace it, now is the perfect time to put a roll pan instead of a bumper on my truck. Problem is that my FX2 came with the towing package (with an open rear diff... how odd) and that will have to be removed to install the DGM roll pan I will be buying. Can I just remove the hitch and slap the roll pan on or will I still need the "re-enforcing plate" that non-tow trucks have to mount their stock bumpers?

I always thought when you put on a roll pan, you leave the bumper off.

Hitch is perfect... never been used... in fact come to think about it I dont think I've ever even touched it lol. All damage is purely cosmetic to the rear right side of my bumper. If I do indeed have to purchase a $300 re-enforcement piece in place of my hitch then yes I shall be looking to sell!

You shouldn't need to buy anything. The bumper is bolted to the hitch or plate depending on whether you have the tow package or not and then the hitch/plate is bolted to the frame. The roll pan should eliminate the need for the hitch/plate.

Want to sell the factory trailer harness?

Wont I risk worse damage to my rear end again if I am hit without the plate?

The roll pan replaces the plate. If you are concerned about that, then you should not get a roll pan.

I would want something behind the roll pan IMO. I would think that just having a roll pan and getting hit there would come out pretty bad since you have no reinforcement.
