Got a leak

last month it rained for 3 weeks straight. 2 weeks ago i was cleaning my truck, vacuuming the inside, i lifted up the front passenger floor mat and it was soaked. There was a puddle just chillin, under the carpeting. i lifted up the carpet and separated it from the insulation stuff. well i let it air out for a week , using a blow dryer when ever i had free time.
it finally dried up today. i was replacing the carpet and i noticed the insulation on the firewall was slightly wet. it hasn't rained in over a week and everything else is dry

so now im thinking its not a leak in the roof. isnt the a/c compressor thing right under the glove box ?

O and under the truck directly under the passenger side floor, theres a heat shield (looks like to me) , which is always soaked and holding water.

Was the color clear or green the puddle that you found? Did it smell ? Ide crawl under the truck on that side and look at the firewall and see if you see any staining and try to trace the leak back were it came from.

I would check to see if your a/c drain is clogged. Good possibilty especially if you take it off road a lot. Be careful to get all the water out of the inside too because it will make your truck smell like mildew, or just get a lot of air freshiners.
I know what rain storm your taking about too. I didnt see the sun for weeks!

where is the a/c drain located, under the truck where that heat shield is ? im assuming since that heat shield is always holding water ?

yeah that rain was brutal , everyday for like 3 weeks , it was terrible

Passenger side frame rail, more towards the front of the truck. Easy check would be to see if water is dripping in that area after driving around with the a/c on for awhile.

it's the ac drain, my dad's truck does it too. He doesn't care though. Eventually it will cause rust.

edit search around, theres a TSB posted on here.

I had the same thing. There was also an issue with the seal between the firewall and the cab. Mine was fixed under warranty. I think they said it was the heater core where it mates up to the firewall. From what I learned it could be one of about 3-4 known problems. Do a search, there has been a lot of old threads about it.

The TSB for that is 7-13-5, I also need it done and will post details when it is. Looks like it's gonna cost me about $200 to have the dealer do it.

Unfortunately there are many leak issues with these trucks, this might not be it. If it is the AC you will see the water leaking in where it goes out the firewall. The TSB explains how to determine if the AC is the problem, do a google search and you should find it.

I just noticed this same issue on my truck today when I was vacuuming it out and was searching around on the forum. I noticed in your picture the grommet is missing from the hole in the floorboard. Did you remove it to drain the water? Reason I ask, is that the grommet in my floor was there, but it was pretty loose. I had driven in some pretty heavy storms last week and I think it may have come in through that grommet. I put some silicone around the grommet and reinstalled it.

I'll check it again in a few days and if it's wet again I'll check out the A/C condenser drain line.

Exclamation

In the TSB you are required to remove the passenger wheel lining. Then, unbolt the trans dipstick.Ford makes a 90* elbow to install over the drain line to direct the condesate water downward.
Here is a link to the TSB;
