08 Engine being torn down at 30k miles!!

should i be worried?

about 1k miles after the last oil change, my truck started a clatter in the engine under very light load. i noticed it when i was in a drive thur with the window down and i turned the wheel back and forth for the power streering pump to load up. almost sounded like a diesel.

dealer has it and i waited for their engine guy to come out and hear it himself. they say they have to just start tearing it down to find the problem.

i tow a TT loaded at 7200# but only about 2k miles of the 30k miles are towing.

dealer does all maintenance and it it not modded in anyway.

just the thought of a 1.5 year old truck with a rebuilt engine worries me. should i be?

The members here that have reported having new or rebuilt engines have reported having good luck with them. It will be interesting to see what they come up with as a problem for you.

Keep us posted on what it turns out to be.

As long as the dealer is footing the bill...no worries.

Sounds like you bought a truck with a lemon motor, just be glad that it's still under warranty.

I would be worried, but then again I'm worried if somebody else does the oil change. lol

After you talk to the mechanic or service writer, they should tell you exactly what needs to be done and what the problem is. I have heard of things like this, but thats what warranties are for. Let us know what the problem is.

He has no reason to be worried, since he is under factory warranty! If he was over, them be worried!.....That is one reason why I have the Ford Premium ESP.....No worries! Life gives us enough to worry about on a day to day basis......

I know, I was just joking about being worried. I just hate other people working on my truck. I had to take my 08 into the dealer after 8k miles for the infamous water leak. They had to take the dash out and seam seal the fire wall. I was a little worried, but all is good and they took care of it. Plus since its on paper that it was repaired by them, you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

Meh, it happens.

They'll do a cost-cap and determine whether it'd be cheaper to repair or replace, and you'll be back on the road in a few day.

well talked to the dealer today. parts have been ordered. turns out to be cam phasers and they locked up the timing tensioners is what they said. had to replace some other seals i guess to replace the ones where they opened it up. should have it back in a day or so.

so it looks like Ford didnt fix all the cam phaser issues. when i get it back, i will check the build date of the truck to see when the engine was built. maybe i got a left over 07 engine. i bought the truck in jan of 08 and it was on the lot for a few weeks.

i will let yall know how it turns out when i pick it up!!!

Check on the drivers side towards the rear of the Valve Cover, there will be a white sticker telling you where & when the engine was assembled!....

well, picked up the truck today, but took it right back. made it abour 2 miles and was smoking pretty bad. they want to put it up on a rack to make sure it is just a lil spilled oil on the manifold or a leak.

ended up replacing both cam phasers, both timing tensioners and timing chains, along with a few gaskets and some a/c freon. oh, they also found a leaking front axle boot and fixed it while they had it.

my total would have been $3200. thank goodness for warranties!!!!

oh yea, i looked and the engine was built on 8/16/07 in ont, canada. they said mine still had the old design cam phaser.

cant wait to get it back....they put me in a lil Kia Reo...big difference from a 4x4 SCrew to this lil matchbox car.....
